My farm focus is moving toward grazing sheep!!! To clear blocks of trees, let in the sunlight, get grasses abd shrubs growing.
Under the closed canopy is NOTHING. Just layer of fallen leaves. The deer walk thru the woods, jump fencing to graze beside the horses!!! They dont have enough to eat in a closed canopy reserve that abutts our property.
Land needs to be opened up to provide better graze and habitat for a great variety of animals, wild and domestic.
( Most of our trees are poor quality due to clear cutting some 50 years ago. The heavy vehicles damaged young unwanted
trees. Where we started cutting 20-30 years ago, the cleared areas has allowed young trees to fill the space, trees worth
keeping long term. Forests and land needs active management, like the native Americans did before the "settlers". And roaming bison kept the grasslands thriving.)
