I met Bill W. 14 years ago on 2/20, i used the steps to quit smoking 5 years ago too, but never thought to apply them to my food addiction, even though with all the binging on carbs I did it should have been a glaring defect, I am glad I found this thread.

I found this wonderful prayer from The 12 Step Prayer Book by Bill P.

The 23rd- 1/2 Psalm

The Lord is my Sponsor! I shall not want.
He directs me to go to many meetings.
He desires me to sit back, relax and listen with an open mind.
He restores my soul, my sanity , and my health.
He leads me in the paths of sobriety, serenity. and fellowship for my own sake.
He teaches me to think, to take it easy , to live and let live and to do first things first.
He makes me honest, humble, and grateful.
He teaches me to accept the things I cannot change, to change the things that I can, and gives me the wisdom to know the difference.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of despair, frustration, guilt, and remorse, i will fear no evil, for God is with me. The Program, God's way of life, the Twelve steps--they comfort me.
God prepares a table before me in the presence of my enemies:
rationalization, fear, anxiety, self pity and resentment.
God anoints my confused mind and jangled nerves with knowledge, understanding, and hope. No longer am I alone, neither am I afraid, nor sick, nor helpless, nor hopeless. My cup runneth over.
Surely sobriety and serenity shall follow me every day of my life, twenty-four hours at a time, as I surrender my will to God and carry the message to others; and I will dwell in the house of my Higher Power as I understand Him, daily.
Forever and Ever.
Amen

Just found my way back to this thread again...what happened to Tammy? Hope everyone is doing well and still sober. I am! I can deal with my alcohol and food addictions so easily when I do it ONE DAY AT A TIME.

I think we can just talk especially about how our recovery and our WOE go together. at first when I got sober, that was all I could manage, then after five years sober, I was ready to quit smoking, funny i tried a lot of diets between now and then, but I feel that be helping with my carb addictions, that this is going to work for me. I never had just one of anything

Default Hey Everyone Glad to meetcha!

Great to see this group talking....I know exactly what you are all going through as I've been there too. What I find now that I'm doing low-carb is that I have NO cravings for "the grape" at all! It's all about sugar for me...how terrible I used to feel when I'd take that first glass - and I thought it was great to get that high - but then the sugar would kick in and I'd feel awful. I'm so happy that I know what it is - Atkins has been a revelation for me. The trick is to remember that awful feeling BEFORE one imbibes!
I'm going to visit often. Good to meet you

for me it was the Alcohol, I am for sure an Alcoholic but the smoking and the carbs were a replacment addiction, after the smoking went the carbs really took over, about 80 pounds worth, so it is time to stop letting this addiction rule me oh and i dropped 2 more pounds this morning, and TOM is due, wow!
