Default Overnight "dry" fast?

Anybody ever tried it? I just heard about it yesterday and my first reaction was, "that can't be good." But of course, that's also what I thought about low carb, high-fat way back when. I've read that it helps with skin tightening and I could use some of that.

I'm a big water drinker. I always have been. I get thirsty. But I'm thinking I could dry fasting from 6 pm until my morning tea without too much trouble. Not sure if it's as helpful to have sleep as my primary activity during my dry fast - most promising studies have been done on Muslims during Ramadan.

Probably won't be back on here until tomorrow but I'd love to hear other people's experiences and opinions.

I would never restrict fluids. The best thing for skin I have found is animal fats or coconut oil both in and on the body.

Another tip: "Mane 'n Tail" hoofmaker ointment -- it's super! Not as messy as CO and lasts a day or so IME. Tractor Supply carries it.

Get the horse size tub -- it goes fast.

I try not to drink too much before bed or ill be up at the loo in the middle of the night

I haven't tried it myself, but from the videos I have watched, it seems to be a extreme version of fasting with increased results, but not recommended for beginners or if you have any health or metabolic issues.

I can’t see anything too extreme about not having a drink from dinnertime till the next morning ... other than a sip of water while rinsing after toothbrushing, I do this all the time, and could easily leave out that sip if there were some benefit. Isn’t it normal to go all night without drinking something?

This is a form of fasting??? Appears to be a misuse of the term.

I imagine most of us have "dry fasted" for 8 to 12 or even 14 hours overnight at one time or another .. for a blood test, or other medical/surgical procedure. Sometimes a sip of water might be allowed, for example to take an essential medication.

As a daily habit .. well, it's probably fine, although it's worth considering such things as hydration status during the day, as well as intake of essential electrolytes .. potassium and sodium in particular .. and climate (ie, hot & dry would have a different impact than high humidity or coldness).

Such things would require expert advice and supervision, which is beyond the scope of our lowcarb forum. Other members above have expressed caution. If one is looking for tips and advice for extended dry fasts beyond overnight, then we respectfully ask that you seek such advice from experts elsewhere.

Please read our most recent policy explanation .. https://forum.lowcarber.org/showthr...525#post9301525 including posts that follow it.

I do not see the rationale: of course you see loss on the scale, the body uses water and now you are not replenishing it. Remember those trash bags that let you “sweat off the pounds”?

Fasting is highly catabolic and the body NEEDS that water to make the processes go. Sounds like a “more extreme than thou” competition to me.
