I quit my job. Remember the HS grad they passed me over for for that other job? They are interviewing her for the class I'm teaching now (as a sub). I practically quit on the spot. I hate being old and unemployable.

No change for me today.

Jschwab, I'm stunned that they even consider high school grads for teaching jobs. That's really outrageous.

YOU ARE NOT OLD AND UNEMPLOYABLE, that job just made you feel that way. Use all your know-how to search out another job that fits you, where you are appreciated!!

Heard yesterday a friend got a new job-- when he complained at his old job about the verbal abuse they said if you can't take it we wont teach you. He is in the trades and needs 4 more years of experience to get his masters license. New to the trades he has few contacts, but he found a better position.

SO... take heart, reach out to past co-workers and bosses, and find a job where you ARE appreciated!!

Yeah, I was really shocked. And I had really misread the situation because I thought they were trying to upgrade their staff to only certified teachers (which I am not). I am in the process of certifying, so I was doubly shocked. She's starting college classes this month (after having done the developmental prereqs). I thought schools would value my high level of education. It was a minumum requirement of the job. I quit and talked to the principal today. The good thing is, she's fabulous, regardless of current educational attainment and I do wish her all the best. It's just hard to feel like my accomplishments are worth so little.

No change today.

I'll take your tomatoes, Ms Arielle! I always travel in the summer and the squirrels get mine. I get a few for ratatouille usually.

I am subbing at another school tomorrow. Bounce back! I think I can keep my confidence intact since I quit so quickly.

J......here teachers have masters or are working on it. To sub inthe schools a BS or BA is required. Even to work as substitute aid.

Part of the reason Massachusetts schools on the whole are increasing the quality of the teaching. Also the MCAS testing scores are rising since implimenting annual testing.

Im sure you will find a position suitable for your skills.....or are u staying on?
