Default Weight loss questions

I started Atkins around 4 weeks ago and during the first 2 weeks I lost 9 lbs. I was so happy that I decided to stay in induction to keep losing weight but 2 weeks later I barely lost 2 lbs. I was just wondering if its normal for weight loss to slow down this much. Now I'm scared of moving on to phase 2 because I feel like may just end up gaining back some weight.

Yup, totally normal. That first big weight loss is mostly because your body gets rid of glycogen and water during the transition. Once you get into ongoing weight loss, you might expect to loss at a much lower rate. I was losing only about 2-4 pounds of month for a long while.... But it adds up, and I've now lost 65 pounds.

Hi and welcome.

Can you correct your stats? I'm confused. It looks like you're already underweight by BMI. If you gain weight by following Atkins/LC eating, it's because you need it in the form of muscle mass from previous crappy eating.

LC will take you to a healthy weight and excellent overall health. If you're looking to be abnormally thin, there's nothing that will work for that except undereating.

Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for replying. I updated my stats.

If I'm only losing around 4 pounds a month and I go into phase 2 wouldn't that make loose weight even slower? I'm also working out 5 days a week. I feel discouraged because phase 1 limits my food options so much that I'm already getting bored of eating the same things everyday.

Las time I went on diet I simply counted calories and no exercise and I still lost an average of 6 pounds a month.

Apparently updating your stats didn't take, maybe you hit the wrong button after changing your numbers?

Anyways--you aren't losing at a rate of 4 pounds a month. So far, you've lost 4 pounds in a month. Obviously that first nine pounds wasn't all fat, that would be 36000 calories, you'd have been burning 2571 a day above what you were eating. So, like andante said, a lot of that will have been water. Water goes up, water goes down, in all probability your body got a bit ahead of itself in the water loss department, so for these two weeks, you may have regained water on a net basis, while losing fat--you really can't tell from these numbers, it's entirely possible that you actually lost more fat in the last half of the month than in the first half--even likely, since you would have had to burn through those glycogen stores before fat oxidation reached its peak.

As far as boring goes--boring isn't an inherent aspect of food. Is bacon dull? Cheese? Roast chicken? Do we get bored of the food--or bored of not eating the foods that give us trouble in the first place (that is, crave sugar, etc).

You might want to get one of Dr. Atkins earlier books, besides everything else, he was also a great song and dance man, I don't think the new guys are anywhere near as good as him at stressing how luxuriant and pleasurable a low carb diet can be. I wouldn't worry about what's happening on the scale at all, I'd concentrate on finding ways to make the food most interesting.

But, since I don't think your scale weight is a problem, I also think that stepping up to a slightly more liberal carb count might make the food more interesting, a two pound weight loss in two weeks that follows a nine pound weight loss in two weeks is not evidence of metabolic resistance that forces you to stay in induction. You can always go back down if it doesn't work for you. Long term, this only works if you find a way to like doing it.

Thank you for your comments they really help.
As for food beign dull you're right, its really not. Right now I have salmon and asparagus in the oven. Definitely delicious.

I'm on mobile so maybe thats why my stats didn't update.

Great loss in Induction. It is time to move forward. The reason you stopped losing is usually because it is time for the next step. 5 more nc of veggies every day.

Don't be scared.. I know that feeling but remember extra spinach is not going to make you gain fat. Maybe water, It will go away and usually with a whoosh.

I didn't want to move up either. But when I did after 2 weeks I was down 4 more pounds. the first week after moving, nothing but midway through the next week 4 lbs were gone. Don't be afraid to move up. Keep everything else the same and give it time. Don't panic after the first few days if you jump up a pound or so.. That is your body acclimating. Be patient and it will pay off!

Thanks! I'll slowly start adding some of new foods to my diet and try to find a new balance. I'm glad I found this forums because everyone has been helpful.
