Question ? regarding full cream

I haven't been able to find whole cream in our stores. They only seem to carry 1/2 & 1/2 or whipping cream. Perhaps I should expand my search. Maybe Canadian stores (at least in Winnipeg, Manitoba) don't carry it? When I question staff, they tell me that 1/2 & 1/2 is the same thing, but I know it's not. Even the whipping cream label says it contains milk. I'm confused!

Night all!

Hi Sue Sun,

Well, I'm certainly not an expert and I'm pretty new at this too, but I've used both heavy cream and whipping cream. They both pretty much tasted the same to me. I try to use heavy cream more often b/c I've noticed that the whipping cream I was using had a few (unnecessary) added ingredients.

Don't know if this helps

Titania

Hi there -

I use whipping cream those it may contain dextrose or malodextrin...although 18% (table cream) is what I use the most. I rarely see heavy cream here.

Thank you ladies! I got some whipping cream today to try in place of heavy cream. There are some dairy farmers not too far away, so I think I'll go on a little road trip this weekend to see if any farmers' markets are set up. Might get some great veggies to boot!

Generally whipping cream and cream are the same, except for those whipping creams that include fillers. The best thing for you to do is check the ingredients statements. If all it says it contains is cream, whether it's called whipping cream or not, it's fine. If it has anything else added to it, it's best to avoid it.

I found a wonderful organic whipping cream that is pure cream and it's 35% milkfat (1 more grams per tbl than regular heavy cream). It is the best tasting cream I have found yet.
