Default Getting more umph from your thyroid meds

I've heard several people, or their doctors, recommend taking your thyroid meds at night, and I must say, it works for me. It really feels like I get about 20% more umph! out of them if I take them just before bedtime.

Anyone else try this?

I suppose if you take T3 that would probably be a bad idea since it works immediately.

That would explain it, since I take desiccated thyroid.

I did that for a few weeks before my last thyroid test. I didn't get a change in my T3 but my T4 levels went way up. My tsh changed by half but I barely have one, it went from 0.004 to 0.002. I think IFing may have increased the effect since I don't eat between noon and 8am the next day, my stomach is fairly empty when I take my pills around 11pm.

From that result my dr suggested taking half my armour in the afternoon to get more instant energy when I hit a slump and the rest of the armour and synthroid at night. I guess it did work energetically because it made the hot weather in the afternoon unbearable to me within an hour of taking the medication. It will be great in the winter!

Do you know if there are differences in response to both T3 and T4 usually?

I've that read about 2/3 have improved sleep taking it before bed but 1/3 have insomnia from it.

I've never felt more fantastic thyroidically.

I try to take mine between 1-3 in the morning (no later than 4) because I wake up early for school.
If you take them before bed...then when is the last time you can eat in the day? What if you get hungry!?
I like some milk before bed...lol so I am not sure if I can do this...

Calcium interferes with absorption of thyroid so you'd probably want to wait an hour or so before taking the thyroid meds after drinking milk.

Thanks. I might try this if I can wake up earlier to take them...

I had the hardest time getting my levels evened out. My doctor started splitting my dose with half in the morning and half in the afternoon. It helped significantly. I can't necessarily tell if I feel the difference but my labs say there's a difference. However, if I take it too late, I'm up all night. Of course, it doesn't help that I'm a raging insomniac.

If you're taking T3 you might not want to take it at night, it's fast acting stuff.

Wait...T3?
I can't remember the difference, but I am on Levothyroxine...I don't think that is fast acting!
I want the other kind of meds though...Armour but I have been too afraid to ask my doctor.

The best results I get is when I take my meds when I get up to go the bathroom. Its usually about 4 am in the morning. I always go back to bed. It took a while to build the habit and not choke on my water and pills that early in the morning, but since I started it I have little trouble, except when I let my meds run out and dont get to the doc in time for blood work :/

Apparently some people on T3 get great results form taking their T3 at night. Mad stuff!

I split up my desiccated thyroid into two doses. One at noon and one at six. I work on my own hours so get up at 10.30/11 and go to bed at 2 to 3. Therefore, to me these doses work well. I have thought about doing it three times a day, but don't know how I would do that really.

T3 isn't found in synthetic forms on thyroid, like Levothyroxine or Synthroid. You have to take it as cytomel or in Armour or other porcine based thyroid.

Ah, but there's a secret to it. You must take the T3 AS YOU'RE TURNING OUT THE LIGHTS. Not a second before.

When you do that, it will give you the best sleep-like-a-log night's rest you ever had.
