Two medications, niacin and a class of drugs known as PCSK9 inhibitors, have been shown to modestly reduce lp(a) levels. But niacin, a B vitamin, has many side effects, and PCSK9 inhibitors, which are not approved for lp(a) lowering, are not usually covered by insurance for that purpose and can cost as much as $14,000 a year.

Off topic a bit, but you mentioning Bob Harper led me to this article. "Niacin has many side effects..." They make it sound like those side effects are particularly noxious. They really aren't generally that serious. Careful if you already have serious liver damage.

Bob Harper as an example--maybe we can find a diabetic with no serious heart disease, that doesn't mean special attention shouldn't be given to diabetics in this area. Just that non-diabetics shouldn't be overly confident, and people should stop writing books with "make yourself heart disease-proof" on the cover.
