Default Hello newbie here...

Well i'm here in search of help..i'll make it quick and simple.

I've been tested for like EVERYTHING. What happened was 2 weeks before my flight instructor checkride in 2005 I came down with heavy severe nausea, abdominal pains, fever.. white blood cells in the urine (UTI) but it wouldn't culture out at all...many times we tried..and failed.

For some reason, my doctor put me on flagyl first (which from what i've learned is not usually given for a UTI) and I had some weird reaction to it that sent me to the ER room extremely dehydrated and having spasms in my lower gut near bladder area. After negative tests for C. difficile they sent me home and I was on antibiotics for 2+ months trying to kill whatever infection it was (cipro/levaquin/avlelox/flagyl again in case of c. difficile). This is when my chronic nausea started. And my IBS issues went bezerk. Ever since then i've done mass testing..CT scans..colonsocpy..endoscope..even a systoscope (not fun ..esp for us guys), IVP..MRI.. you name it..

The infection/fever went away and white blood cells but I was left feeling worse and couldn't fly. Over the years I've been to 3 GI specialists who have all said the same thing "IBS" "Spastic Colon" and I have friends and people online who are flying and dealing with IBS flying at the airlines but i'm too nauseated and in pain to even drive a car.

Frustrated I asked my doctor about Candida, and he ruled it out saying "stool tests/blood tests negative" and just to make me happy he gave me 15 days of nystatin and only like 3 days worth of diflucan due to liver risk. But i'm suspecting it because i'm sooo tired..can't sleep..constipation like crazy..left side spastic colon...sweaty palms..face flush..can't concentrate worth a dang..also found out I was low on potassium and i'm taking potassium pills but from my reseaerch low potassium levels do not cause IBS.

I have a hunch it's been Candida..I took the online test and scored very high - can't sleep..my left side feels like someone kicked me and i'm doing fiber/water/exercise/antispasmotics..everything I can but I can't get it to work...and now unemployed

Any advice? Does this sound like possible Candida?? I'm trying no sugar/yeasts ect.. (I think I need to find a doctor that will let me really try a few months of nysatin. I should have done the glass of water routine but I just took my first pill of nystatin. Hopefully it's safe to take the short course of diflucan with nystatin but I don't think 3 days is gonna do squat.. oh well it was worth a try buggin him)

any advice? Even if you get negative tests blood/stool it's still worth trying right? Why are doctors so against this? Seems like it would make a lot of sense... especially being chronically sick like I am...

This does not sound like candida to me. I would get a second opinion-even a third one. Have you tried eating yogurt? A good high fat/no sugar added yogurt. But still- see a doctor about the symptoms your having.

ugh it's soo frustrating.. my GI doctor is clueless.. they just keep saying "IBS" when I feel soo crappy.. he's admitted he has no clue what it is. Stool tests/blood tests are negative, all imaging is zilch worthless.

I've done yogurt and I was going to just ask the doctor for a trial of nystatin and do a probiotic of some sort, maybe threelac or something to just try it out. Figure it wouldn't hurt. Thanks for your reply though

Default Candida

Hi Matt,

I don't know if it is candida but you should go to Healing Naturally by Bee website she has everything you need toknow about candida and how to successfully rid yourself from it. You really should find a good holistic doc if possible or a naturopthic doc. As for the yoghurt it will not get rid of candida even the sugar free stuff. I have researched this for years as I too was ill and doctors didn't know what it was. I went to the website yeastconnection.com and found a wealth of information there too by the main doctor who really discovered candida overgrowth, a Dr. Crooke (deceased now).
I am currently being treated with nystatin by my doc who believes in candida, and I am dieting like mad to rid myself of the overgrowth.

I hope you find out something as I feel for you.

Have you ever tried a gluten free diet? I'd knock out the dairy too.

My symptoms did not include any abdominal pain. I took two tablespoons coconut oil and used pepermint oil drops in a little H2O twice a day. My IBS has cleared up. Good Luck! Vonnie

Thanks for the replies everyone

I tried doing a trial of nystatin and as far as I can tell it really didn't do much, but since it was low risk/doesn't cross the blood barrier I thought what the heck why not?...avoided sugar like crazy and all it did was made me sick (dieoff? who knows..)

so I asked my doctor about testing for SIBO and in the meantime I'm going on a lactose free diet for a good couple of weeks or month to see if thats it. I have pretty heavy nausea and in the past i've avoided dairy before but I've learned that lactose can be in ...bread.. cereals.. you name it so i'll keep going but I do appreciate the advice i'm looking into everything. I'm near broke and no insurance this whole time so i'm trying everything. Gonna go back on fiber again. I have like IBS symptoms and i've been told I have IBS but something is seriously messed up. Low white blood count and stool samples all have white blood cells in them. Bad anxiety..can't sleep.. major abdominal pains.. so we'll see.

Thanks!

Hi Matt.

I have struggled with a lot of the issues that you described and have seen countless doctors to try and find a "cure." If you would like to look at my journal (starting back in January), I go through how I started with diet (and what I eliminated), moved to anti-fungals (and increased them gradually and alternated them), and finally added pre- and pro-biotics. I cobbled together a lot of information from Bee's site as well as yeastconnection and others so it's kind of a compilation of many hours of internet searching (I'd spare you that if possible!--it can be really confusing). I have never taken prescription anti-fungals but have pretty much "cured" myself through the steps I outline. I don't know if what I did would work for you but you might give it a look and see if there is anything you can use.

One other thing that I have repeatedly run across is that fiber is not necessarily good for folks with candida (i.e. avoid it if at all possible and cook your veggies to death if you eat them). Not sure if you feel better using fiber but this is what I have heard.

Best of luck to you--I hope you can find some answers!

One other thing I forgot to post--I have tried the Threelac protocol twice, once just the Threelac for 3 months and once the whole recommended program for 1 year. It did absolutely NOTHING for me except make my bank account much lighter! IMHO not worth the money to even try it.

Default allergy testing brought me here...

I am super new to this...but I found out exactly what I am allergic to gluten/yeast/corn/cow milk etc. from a food allergy test. Just a blood test. Watch out for the expense...my insurance wanted it done at a hospital...my doctors treated me with antibiotics for years (infections) and gave me zoloft (got so mentally foggy)...when in reality it was what I ate that made me so sick...gluten intolerance made my friend have seizures....so scary!!!!

I am going for more testing...Almost 40, but I am going to eventually understand my body...

Default did you have your spleen/gallbladder tested?

I don't know which side the spleen is on...but if that is injured or enlarged...serious pain, nausea...they would have found it with the scans right????? (or if you have a bumbling doctor like my boyfriend's doctor) maybe not right away!!!!
