Question Help! Just diagnosed with IBS

I Have just been diagnosed with IBS. I had been on the atkins diet and lost 110 pounds. I had been off the diet for about 8 months when I got a yeast infection. The doctor put me on antibiotics for ten days and thats when all the pain really began. I had my gallbladder taken out last month but the pain was still there. Last week I was diagnosed. I WANT TO BE BACK ON ATKINS! I DON'T WANT A LOW-FAT , HIGH CARB DIET.

Everything I have read about IBS goes against this but then they also contradict themselves. Candida is a problem but then they tell you to have refined sugar!

How can I make this work! Is there any cheese I can have? What about diet desserts? I used to have the endulge bars and low-carb ice cream these both seem to be a problem. I need advice!

Well, I can't give you any candida advice but I can tell you all my IBS symptoms are caused by food intolerances which I figured out by an elimination diet.

Right now the list of foods that give me problems are:

Gluten (you might want to look up gluten intolerance), chocolate, nuts, seeds, dairy products.

Eliminating those brings bliss to my bowels.

Smile Thanks Nancy LC

Thanks Nancy, So far sweet and low is a definite trigger. I am trying stevia. Can you give me an idea for an ibs safe dessert? Dairy is a problem so no low-carb ice cream, so is chocolate. I guess I have to keep trying different things. But I do feel better on a low-carb diet. Thanks again!

Well, I think everyone is different with different trigger foods. I'd suggest pairing your diet down to a small number of foods you are pretty confident don't trigger you, for me that is meat and veggies. Then add in things to try for 4 days. If you get a reaction, note it, remove it and wait for the gut to settle before you try a new one.

I seem to do ok with Splenda.

Chocolate is one of the worst for me and I think it isn't uncommon. Fortunately I started to kind of dislike chocolate around the time I figured out it was really hurting my gut, so it wasn't too hard to give up.
