Default Chicken Soup and Fitday...

I have a bad cold. I bought a quart of good old fashioned chicken soup from Nate 'n Als (Jewish deli near me). Just broth (no noodles, carrots etc.). I assumed that this was completely carb free; then I went to Fitday, and they have chicken soup as 9+ grams of carbs per cup. I had 4 cups, so 36+ grams of carbs. What???

Is this possible?

Did you type in chicken broth, or chicken soup? If you click on the name of the food, a list of the nutritional info should come up - including the ingredients. I bet that fitday's chicken soup has vegetables, or noodles or something.....

Thanks. Fitday does not list the ingredients of chicken soup. I did look up chicken broth, and it shows less than 1 carb. Maybe fitday includes totals of carrots and onions? I am going to assume that there were minimal carbs in the soup.

Default Hope you feel better !

I can understand you wanting to nourish your cold with soup. Maybe you should have just went to the store and bought chicken broth. But you have to find one with little carbs.....thats what I read on Atkinscenter. They claim chicken broth is acceptable but brands differ on their carb content. When buying something homemade you are not sure what they put in it. I recommend going to the store and finding a good choice.

Hope your feeling better soon !!!

Dont worry about what is done...you'll be back on track soon.....care for your cold !

Here is a chicken soup recipe I made.

You have it for you evening meal - it was quite filling and yummy.

3/4 cup cooked chicken or turkey chopped or shreadded
1 cup chicken broth (look for lowest carb)
1 stalk celery, chopped
1/2 small tomato, chopped
2 tablespoons heavy cream
2 tablespoons cream cheese
sprinkle of salt and italian seasoning.
........................
..........................

Simmer chicken, celery, salt , italian seasoning,
and tomato in broth untill celery is tender,
then add the cream cheese and stir 'till combined.
then add heavy cream and bring to a simmer.
I counted about 8 carbs, 9 if you add a bit
of onion. It was so filling! I hope you like it!
