I quit 18 months ago On the downside, it resulted in some weight gain. But hey, low carbing is going to solve that one, right?

Given the choice, would I go back to smoking? No way In fact, I was in a pub with friends the other day and I had to suggest we leave because the smoke was making me feel ill

For the first time I understand why non-smokers find smoking so obnoxious. When I was addicted to tobacco I used to think they were just trying to be awkward and make me feel uncomfortable Now I know just how difficult it must have been for them to be in the same room as me when I was puffing away...

The method I used to quit - cheap and totally painless - was to read a book called "Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking". Best investment I ever made

Give it a try if you're thinking about stopping - what have you to lose other than the price of the book?

I loved that book too. It got me through some really rough times. As did www.quitnet.com

My stats:

406 days, 5 hours, 9 minutes and 7 seconds smoke free. $3,552.50
and 3 months, 18 days, 14 hours of my life saved!

I should add this. Before I quit, I wondered if it could possibly be worth the pain. I'd smoked 30 years, was up to 2 packs a day and really didn't think I could do it. Or if I did, it just wouldn't be worth it.

It is totally worth it. Totally. And it is also doable... because if I can do this, anyone can do this. I only gained about 5 lbs, and I wasn't even low carbing. I simply reached for water before I indulged in food or candy. I also relied heavily on NRT's.

But wow. I've saved 3 months of life... and I believe that. I breathe better, sleep better. I feel healthier.

Hey everyone! I quit back in January, here are my stats

193 days, -140 packs, $840.00 saved.

Wow, looks like a lot when you sit and figure it out!!!

I would never never never start again. Not to say I have not had moment where I want one, but it can not replace how much better I feel!! I can breath again, I can go up steps with out getting winded!! I don't use my asthma meds anymore (yes I smoked with asthma) and I don't stink!

I don't think the want ever totally goes away, but I can deal with it.

I made a bit of a boo boo last time I posted here - I said that I had been a non-smoker for 8 months - what I should have said was that I was in my 8th month of being a non-smoker
