I was able to get out and "exercise" on Tuesday. Good to get out mid week and take some PTO. Met 2 friends out on the ice. On of the guys, a 20 year old kid, is a super athlete - very stoked to watch him kite and get some tips.

I need to get in better shape, maybe some actual training might be required

Below is a little movie I made at the end of the day when everyone had decided to pack up and miss the beautiful sunset. Cold hands making clips with iphone but fun!

Movie Link Below...

My carb experimentation is done for the month. The most shocking thing for me and what I don't understand yet is that my measured acetone in breath via Ketonix meter was AT FASTING LEVELS. My guess is that I was still producing ketones but they were not being used as fuel much with all the sugar abounding in my tissues.

And another interesting note, I fasted for 24 hrs and the acetone measured zero. I measured twice. Now I expect with a few more days of fasting that the levels will return to "normal" for me - 50-60's and daily net carbs ~25 or so after fast. We'll see... I think I might bring this up in the war zone

Good evidence that supports the notion that you can still gain weight while showing signs of ketosis. It would have been nice to have a blood meter like Rob (from this site) has has recently picked up to see what the blood was saying rather than just the breath.

PS, I did manage one day to consume over 1kg (1000g) net carbs. That was not much fun. There was also lots of fat conusmed at the same time. I didn't measure but I estimating 10,000 calories! Don't try this at home or anywhere else is my recommendation - that is if you care about your weight and perhaps health.

OK I have to ask, How did you consume 1000 g of carbs? Did you just eat chips, pizza, candy and donuts all day?

By the way, that's a GORGEOUS SUNSET!!

Yes Meme. But u got one thing wrong... it didn’t take all day!

Ketone rebound has been very interesting. I’m day 3 of fast and low activity. No “low carb flu” symptoms so I must be lucky that way. Cracking carbs for fuel and water. 20 lbs worth in 48 hrs. Final ketone and weight measurements tomorrow morning before funhogging session. The body is an interesting and adaptable vehicle!

More questions Thud. Did you do all carbs or did you have some protein in there somewhere? Did you feel sick after you did it?

Mostly carbs and fat - protein was incidental. Felt OK physically and mentally but felt "full" - uncomfortably full, and I was. Not recommended unless you are testing how your body functions/behaves to stimulus. The most interesting thing to me is the acetone measured in breath. It's definitely NOT what I expected.

Hopefully this answers your questions

I plan on breaking 80 hr. fast tomorrow morning with standard lowcarb meal - beef and some greens - then go "work out" all day on the ice or snow somewhere.

Having small meal of protein and greens to break fast. Feeling great - more fasting in my future - three days seems perfect for this body lately. Again, surprised at ketone reading this morning. So funny that I swear that the Ketonix is broken but it's only one measure if a guess at what's going in in the body, just like the scale says in the last 3 days it has "lost" 26 lbs - Neither of these measures take alone, or even together, paint a complete picture. I'm fooling myself if I think it does. Mystery is the body - the picture never finished - just changing and reorganizing by itself with the editor/artist thinking they are in complete control.

1215 - 15 - 00 - 211 - Low
1216 - 16 - 01 - 205 -

Off to fetch some gear that was removed from my car, stored in a police station, picked up by a friend - How even can that stuff be considered "my stuff" - it's just stuff that's floating around in the world, created then destroyed - When it's around me there's an illusion that it's "Mine" - but it is just an illusion, and one that can cause pain and suffering if I attach to it too hard. Thinking about it as "not mine" makes it easier for it to come and go - like waves in the ocean. Ride them.

Peace!

First KiteSnowboard session of the year - SO FUN. Not many brusies. I did slam my head once near end of session. Snow was about 4-6 inches over ice. Ice is hard, ouch. Learned and relearned all sorts of stuff. Pumped!!!

Picture friend took (4 of us out) from far away. Sky conditions were bleak which made it hard to judge how fast you were going but it's much slower than skates top speed. At least if felt that way. Heading out to plain old snowboard in a few mins. No wind today

Yesterday was a great day on the hill snowboarding. I learned a lot on the board that I got back that was removed from my vehicle a few weeks ago. 3.5 hr session really working on "fakie" or "switch" carving this will help when trying to do weak side transitions with the kite.

Taking another day off tomorrow and heading back to spot we were at Saturday. It's going to be WINDY - hope I have a small enough kite. Hope to take a picture of video - might be sunny - yesterday it was so bleak again, makes it hard to see the bumps.

So grateful I can use this snowboard again. Thanks to whatever makes things go around in circles somehow!

Thanks Ken! I'm ready to roll this morning. Got some new long underwear - or base layer as I hear people say these days (I'm old) to test. Finished rigging this board with different bindings and testing Donek BX Plates... Hope to get a nice sunny picture today, maybe...

Insane day kiting with the smallest kite in the quiver. I was lucky to not get injured or lost when the wind came up to near 50mph. It was quite an experience, I hand to stop and sit on the ice with the little 3.7 M Cloud D about 10 feet off the surface of the lake. The kite surged and drifted back and forth during the gusts. As I was sitting on the ice the only thing I could see was white all around me, my kite 20M away in the air and if I looked above I could see sort of blue sky with snow whipping past.

I've been in what seem like dire situations like this before and comfort myself by saying, "The wind will back off in a while, it always does, even if it's tomorrow it will back off..." I waited it out for a break then kited back to the launching spot and was able to punch out and recover the kite in the wind shadow of a small island. Such fun! I made a little movie of the day and near the end, still full of adrenaline, I described my time out there. whew!

Thanks Meme, Robyn and Donna Lee! No Meme, not transponder. When I'm done please just leave me out there for the crows and eagles and fish to eat. Back to where I came from - nowhere, everywhere.

Happy Holidays!

Gearing up for the weekend but I'm on call so I'll have to dial it down a notch, I have to hear my phone ring incase someone needs help!

EDIT: just thought of a mantra for the day:

may I be peaceful and happy and a benefit for others.
