Default Flax Seed: How much do YOU take?

Hi All;
I have done research on flax seeds...whole...the kind you would purchase and grind yourself. Average recommended as a source of Omega 3 (etc) and for constipation is 2 tablespoons ground flax seed. That's 2 TBSP after grinding....

ALSO: I found out that several of the great qualities of flax seed are lost when making the oil (fiber is lost etc)...thus consenus is that the seed is better at delivering health benefits etc over the oil...and less expensive by far...

Question is: How much flax SEED do YOU consume on a daily basis?

Me: 2 Tbsp per day...tried 3 TBSP today...still working on the proper amount for me.

Best to all;
Jake

Well unless I have it as a porridge, 2 tbsp a day is what I have been taking for 6 months. I put it in my yogurt, or cottage cheese.

When I make the porridge, it's 1/4 cup with chopped hazelnuts or almonds, cream and yogurt, microwaved, then drizzle 1 1/2 tbsp.n/s maple sryup. Man it's amazing how filling it is.

I have never tried any other thing as a fibre source to keep me regular, I've had good luck with it and just stick to it.

Cheers Kathy

I use about 1/3 cup flax meal, 1/4 almonds or mac nuts, 1/3 cup unsweetened soy milk with 1 T davinci syrup. Yum. I have it almost every day.

I have a flaxseed muffin every morning. The recipe calls for 1 cup of ground flaxseeds, and makes a dozen, so I guess that means I have 1 tablespoon of flaxseed a day. But I also take 3000mg of flaxseed oil.

Hi Jake! I've been having 3 - 4 tbsp of ground flaxseed in a hot cereal mix I make every morning. I'll be getting a little coffee grinder soon so I can buy the seeds in bulk and save some cash.

between two & three tablespoons mixed with hot water, a couple of sliced strawberries & cream or SF soy milk (so I can avoid taking those lactose intolerance pills) sometimes I'll add it to smoothies with yogurt & berries too! No more than 3 tblsp a day though.

Is there a limit to how much flax you can eat during induction?

I'm on day 2, and had about 1/2 cup of flax meal this morning. Will that knock me out of ketosis?

7.6 cups of flaxseeds have 20g net carbs, but the limit is based more on how much your bowels can handle. It is a good idea to start with 2T and work up from there. Because of the irritation, some people retain water until they get used to flax, but heh, it is just water, not fat.

I have a flax muffin almost every morning - about 2 T per day. Sometimes I will make a chocolate flax cake after dinner (same recipe as muffin with cocoa and splenda added).
