When you enter then, you can enter the net-carbs, or the value you to use in the "Custom carb count PECC_ field.

Let me know what numbers you entered, and what the exact error was.

Remember that you enter the carbs without subtraction, the subtracted net carbs goes into the "custom carb count" area.

That should work fine.

What was the error?

Question re: atkins bars not adding up correctly in MYPLAN

This is the exact same problem I am having when I attempt to enter an Atkins bar as a custom food. It keeps telling me that the carb/fat/fiber etc. counts don't add up! I am copying directly from the bar packaging!!! Please help. Is there another way to record this food for the day?

Hi there, and welcome to the forum.

The problem is that Atkins bars have some sugar alcohols. Do the bars have a "total carb" count that is much higher than the "net" carbs?
If so, you can simply enter the net carbs as PECC, and the difference between the net carbs and total carbs as sugar alcohols (in Additional Data).

If your bars show the total carbs as the same as the net carbs, you will have to do a spot of arithmetic. Simply multiply fat grams by 9, net carb grams by 4, and protein by 4. Subtract this from the calories. Then just divide the remainder by 4, and that will be your sugar alcohols count.

HTH

Unhappy so frustrating!

For Atkins Choc Chip Granola Bar 200 cals, 17g Protein, 9g Total lipid (fat), 3 net carbs, 5g Fiber, Sugar Alcohol 2g, Glycerin 7g - by entering in the difference between the net and the total carbs as sugar alcohols (what do I put in the 'Carbohydrates, by difference' area?) - I subtracted the net carbs [3] from the total carbs [17] and put that in the PECC area, as instructed. What about the fiber subtracting from the carbs? What a nightmare! Here is what your program tells me:

The nutritional date you have entered are incorrect. Please make sure to enter valid data.

You have entered 200 calories, but the data entered totals to 161 calories. The formula to calculate calories is as follows:

Calories = Carbs x 4 + Protein x 4 + Fat x 9 + Alcohol x 6.93

The data you entered comes to:

Calories = 161 = 3 * 4 + 17 * 4 + 9 * 9 + 0 * 6.93 = 161

Possible reasons are:

1. You did not enter the label data accurately, re-check to ensure accuracy

2. The label may have listed carbs by weight (including fiber) and not by difference. In this case, subtract the fiber from the carb count

3. The label is incorrect, or contains hidden carbs.

While I appreciate the MYPLAN program, entering customized food really is difficult.

Hi Kristi,

First of all, I totally agree that this particular section is a pain in the behind.

I finally managed it (using your figures) by entering 8 in the "Carbohydrate by difference" place. I got the 8 from adding the PECC to the fibre.

I'll add something along these lines to the FAQ.

Default silly atkins bars!

I appreciate your attention to this frustrating issue, Rosebud! I also tried entering 8 as you did (1 serving = 48 grams), but now when I add it to my plan, it still shows as 8 carbs, not the net 3! Oh well, this is just too darn difficult to figure out at this time of the morning! Thanks anyways!

Did I mention this is a pain in the behind? But I was determined to solve this, and I think I have.

Forget the sugar alcohol count. That was a red herring. Enter, as before, net carbs plus fibre into the "Carbohydrate by difference" spot, BUT also enter the net carbs as PECC. That will give you the net carbs when you enter the bar into your plan. (I promise! )

I think I might owe our webmaster an apology. Sorry, Wa'il.

I just tried again, this time simply putting the total carbs in the Carbohydrate by difference spot, and the net carbs into the PECC spot. And it turned out fine. Just as Wa'il suggested in an earlier post.
I think I've been making it seem harder than it is.

Sorry to have confused anyone.
