Default Reg Peanut Butter vs. Natural Peanut butter

I was fixing a snack today with peanut butter for my kids and myself. I use the nautral peanut butter and they are having the store brand. Out of curiosity I checked the labels and found something that is very surprising to me.

My natural peanut butter (peanuts and salt only) has:
210 calories per 2 TBSP
16 g of fat
6g carbs
2g fiber
1g sugar (???)

The kids store bought regular peanut butter haspeanuts, sugar, hydrog veg oil, molasses, salt)
200 calories per 2 TBSP
16g ffat
6g carbs
2g fiber
3g sugars

How is it possible for my natural to have more calories and hte same amount of carbs when the regualr has sugar and molasses? Any ideas?

Probably because the 2 T. of natural peanut butter is all healthy fats from pure peanuts and the sweetener is the other takes up some of the space of the 2 T. and sweetener is less calories per T. than fats.

Hope that made sense!

Lipid: Thanks for the reply. I think I get it now. It just seemed odd the the natural and the regular sugar laden peanut butter would have the same carb count. I guess it is just because the regualr has less peanuts and more sugar and the natural has more peanuts thus more carbs that compensate for the lack of sugars in the other? Now I'm wondering if I am making any sense....lol.

Binki: I'm sorry I'm confused about your post.....Poison low-calories? Can you explain please.

Thanks ladies!

Default Peanut Butter

I have been using the lowcarb peanut butter from carb control options. It has:
17 g fat
3.5 g sat fat
5 g carbs
2 g fiber
7 g protein.

Tastes just like reg to me..not quite as good as Adams..

I meant that since the sugar and trans fats are poison, and since the version with the poison in it is lower in calories, poison must therefore be low-calorie!

Ah-Ha, I gotcha now! I'm alittle slow today. The kids have made me .
I may be able to ditch the regular peanut butter afterall. The kids tried mine with the splenda added and said they couldn't tell the difference but liked mine better because of the consistency (not super creamy but not a chunky as the regular chunky PB, it is just right).

Have a great weekend!

I would love to try the Real Brand PB. I will have to look for htat next time I go to the store. I am using Smuckers Natural and the taste is really good but I wouldn't mind saving a carb or two here and there...lol

I wonder what makes the difference in the carb count if the ingredients are the same. Mine has only peanuts and salt. hmmmm.......

Thanks ladies for the tips. Goodness knows I need em'.

I eat the regular peanut butter with no problems. I think it is more of a personal preference.

Who cares about 10 calories? "Regular" (not natural) PB is crap!
