Default Superstore Bacon?

I was wondering if any other frugal canadian lowcarbers have tried out the boxes of bacon that you can get at superstore. they're 5 lb boxes and sell for about 2 boxes/12$ or so, depending on when you buy them.

I'm curious to see if anyone else has noticed any sugary effects from them. Sugar is on the ingredient list, but it's near the end of the list, so i dont think there's really that much in there. What do you think?

How is it packaged, walnut? I mean, is the bacon in 1-lb packs inside the box? I usually buy the kind that is in net bags, 3 or 4 lbs in one bag. Haven't seen any in boxes yet.

It's bulk packaged--all the bacon is frozen together in a big lump, LOL. i usually defrost it and cook it all at once. then store in small serving sizes that are easy to access. it's a time saver. Oh, and they dont keep it with the regular bacon--it's in the freezer section near the chicken legs. The box has red checks on it.

i'm just wondering if anyone else has found it to be sweet.

We buy the bacon in the boxes all the time. I think it tastes good but sometimes there is a lot of fat. Its the bacon ends from all the different types/flavors they have, so you never really know what it will taste like. The last box we had was maple flavor....mmmmm yum. I only have one concern about it, is it too much fat? Will it slow down the weight loss?

Fat does not slow down weight loss on a low carb eating plan. In fact, too little fat may have that effect. Only protein and fat are essential to human survival. Eskimo or Inuit have lived for centuries without carbs for the whole winter and much of the rest of the year.

I tend to buy the lower salt bacon at Costco. Can't stand the bitter salt taste and don't want the water retention.

I go to Bronos Fine Foods and get the bacon in the deli that they smoke themselves. It is so good
