Thumbs up I'm in

Hi Josee,

Count me in. Today is day one for
me (restarting atkins after a 5 month
hiatus!) I've done well today.

I had 8 glasses of water (and hope to have some more before bedtime.) Went
to the gym and worked out with weights and did 20 minutes cardio.

My dd and I also went for a short walk
(I'd say about 1/2 mile or so)

HOw was your day? I've never joined a countdown before so let me know if
there is anything I need to know

Take care,
Karich

Default one more thing!

Just noticed on your sig that you
have PCOS... so do I. I was just
dx'ed about 4 months ago. We're
trying to have #2 and that's one problem
the doctor found (I asked to be tested for early meno!) I'm not taking anything
for it right now... but am on clomid... not working though. This month is my 3rd round of it and still no pregnancy. I'm
hoping that by dropping a few pounds I'll increase my changes...

so to babble! Take care. Karich

Default Hi

Wouldn't you know it... I post the 60 day challenge and get a viral infection and have been in bed for the last while.... Sorry about that.

I found that Chlomid by itself doesn't work for us (I know it never did anything for me and many others). I read an awful lot about PCOS and one of the things they say is that a combination of Chlomid and Metformin is what works (because the Metformin controls our insulin levels).

I am on Met and can honestly say that it makes me feel like a normal human being again. I lose weight, my insulin levels are more controlled and my general all around feeling is great.

I've decided to give up on having kids (personal decision), however, I can very much relate to wanting them and how hard it is to be stuck not being able to have them.

I say don't give up! Keep on trying. Why not try the combination of Met with Chlomid and see if it makes a difference for you?

I'm not doing that well on my "challenge" by the way. Being sick as a dog, and having to take meds with SUGAR in them doesn't help. I'm not eating except for once a day and not always the right thing.... Hmmm

But I'm happy to say that I haven't gained, I've even lost a pound. Will keep trying! Next week I'm back on track (no more meds).

So tell me more about yourself?

Smile Hi Josee!

I'm so sorry you are not feeling well. I
hope that you recover soon. I wouldn't worry about what you eat so much right now, getting better is what's important and drinking plenty of fluids.

A little more about me... I'm 33, married to a wonderful guy, who's 32 and we have one dd, 3 1/2. We live in Tennessee. My husband is English, I'm American.

I wasn't overweight as a child or teenager, but start putting it on about age 21. Partly because my ex kept telling me how fat I was! Funny, I look back and the pictures and I was skin and bones... he was just a weirdo!!

I lost a good deal while I was pregnant
with my dd because of severe morning sickness and then went on atkins after she was born and lost 40 more. I got down to about 140 and was very happy there. But then I lost my dad and father in law in a swimming accident and went on an eating binge. I am an emotional eater.... so I've tried on and off the last year and a half to get back on track and loose all this weight, but can't seem to do it. I'm hoping this challenge as well as journalling will help.... I'm sick and tired of being big and out of breath all the time.

I'll look into the Metformin that you suggested. It couldn't hurt to try. I'm
at a crossroads right now.... I would really like K to have a sibling... but I don't know how much more heartache I can handle (I've had two miscarriages) My husband very badly wants another child though and there is a lot pressure there. He says he doesn't blame me for the m/c's and not being able to get pregnant, but he always adds but I'd really want K to have a brother or sister....

I was hoping to make it to the gym this morning, but hte roads are icy so I'm not sure I will... how are you doing on the excerice bit? (before you got ill I mean!)

Well i've babbled enough. I'm so glad you posted again. I look forward to getting to know you and helping each other through this countdown!

Take care,
Kara

Default Hi All

Absolutely you guys can join. Welcome!

I too was thin all my life till I hit 19. I lost a baby, and my body just didn't seem normal after that. I always blamed myself for getting rid of it. I was young and listened to others telling me I shouldn't have it when I was still in school and with that guy. Little did I know that it would be my last chance at having one.

Everything changed after that. I gained weight, lost my period, years of doctors didn't help as they didn't know what I had (in their words: all in my head) and the symptoms only got worse (hair loss, gaining of chin hairs..etc etc..) Until I got a phone call from my aunt telling me she saw a show on PCOS on TV and was sure that's what I had and begged me to look into it on the internet. So I did and I started crying when I read about it. I too was sure. So I went to see specialist in Toronto and they confirmed that indeed, I had PCOS. Put me on met (at my request) and I've been much better ever since!!!

So that's me in a nutshell.

I'm not doing too good with food & exercise. When I'm at work, I work hard all day. I barely have time for my lunch let alone exercise. I had been working 14 hour days, so exercising was out of the question. Then I got sick and here I am.

I have just started back on my diet and lost 4 lbs in one week. I started at 185 and now am at 179. Can't wait till next week to get back on the diet. As for now, I'm concentrating on getting better.

So newcomers.... what about you guys... tell us a little bit about you...

Hi Josee, Arnie, and Jesdorka!

I'm so glad to found this group! I woke up this morning and the first thing I wanted to do (after weighing!) was come and see if anyone posted anything

Jesdorka, I'm sorry about your bp being up. I hope in 3 months time you won't need the meds.

Arnie, Welcome I have trouble at the holidays too! I've decided to have planned cheats for Christmas Day and
Boxing Day. Then go right back on plan the 27th. I'm not going to cheat on New's Year's Eve (or that's the plan anyway!)

Josee, it must be so difficult to work that many hours. Do you carry your lunch? Or have a good restaurant to eat it? I hope so. Maybe you could take you some high protein snacks (already measured out and in individual baggies) to eat through out the day. I did that when we went on a long plane ride and didn't want to eat the plane food. It was a hassle, but keep me from over eating bad stuff. Congrats on your weight loss

Well that's about all for now... good luck you all. I'm sure we can do this together!

Kara

good morning josee,kara and arnie

well a little about myself-i have 3 grown children and 2 teenage grandchildren. i took early retirement in 95 due to health reasons. i needed my 3rd surgery for leg problems, my weight was at it's all time high, could only walk 10-15 mins with a cane and blood pressure was out of control so i was put on bp meds. in 96 dr. put me on a 1200 cal, low fat high carb diet(just another of many i was always on over 40 yrs) over the next 2yrs i did manage to lose 50lbs but it was a struggle every single day--always hungry.
in the fall of 99 i saw the drs. heller on tv and of course thought the low carb approach was a bunch of hooey but i kept thinking about it & so i bought the book and realized i was a true carb addict. i started calp in jan 2000, it was amazing, i wasn't craving, had lots to eat, cut out diet drinks and started drinking water & excersizing for the 1st time in my life. over the next year and a half i lost another 40 lbs and was then taken off bp meds. then i guess i got too sure of myself and started to add the wrong carbs to my reward meal so then i started to gain. after a few months i decided to go on atkins which didn't work for me i just gained more. jan 2002 i switched to protein power and lost what i had gained and then this summer i went south for nearly 3 months to take care of family matters and allowed myself to gain 40lbs(telling myself the carbs wouldn't hurt-duh!) so here i am down 20lbs since sept-went on atkins induction the 1st month and am now back on protein power and of course back on bp meds. the good thing here is that my daughter and granddaughter started low carbing this fall and are both doing well.

Default Hi

Congrats for all that weight loss.

No I don't bring special foods to work. I sometimes go get myself a salad downstairs and have them add a chicken breast to it sometimes. I will often bring cheese and sliced deli meat and have that for my lunch. As for breakfast, I have just ordered myself a "poaching chicken" and will be having eggs in the morning at work. Thank Heavens that I love eggs or else I'd be in trouble on this diet LOL

I'm following the CAD/CALP diet so my dinner isn't something I need to worry about. My DH isn't on a diet and sometimes frustrates me with what he eats and I have to eat a salad. So the CAD/CALP diet is perfect for me. I don't have to worry about it anymore and he doesn't feel guilty for eating what he wants.

Although this week my diet is completely shot AND I just realized that I completely forgot to take my met

Well next week I start back at 0, and will be definitely needing your support

tty gals tomorrow.

How's everyone today? I've been pretty good so far. All LC including treats. I started working out last week Tues-Thurs-Sat 1/2 hour cardio with weights split routine. I plan to weigh myself every two weeks, but in reality it will probably be every week because I'm impatient.

Good luck all!!!!

Hi everyone,

I've not felt too well today. Started out find, but then right before supper I started feeling queasy... don't know why exactly.... dh said maybe pregnant? But I seriously doubt it!

I've done well on eating today. Especially as Kayleigh and I went to a Christmas festival of downtown shops and every one we went in had yummy free treats (and none lowcarb!) Kay must have eaten 5 cookies! But we did walk for several hours (from 5.30-nearly 8!) so I guess she deserved them! She was so good in the shops (they're all specialty gift shop type ones) We even got to go on a horse and carriage ride (though it was very cold!)

Way to do on your exercising Arnie. I've just started back myself. (though I missed today ) I'm suppose to be weighing weekly.... but I can't help but do it everyday! You have more patience that me

Hi Jes, your plan looks good. Well balanced exercise. How are you feeling? Is your b/p coming down or do you not have to check it every day?

Josee, I know how frustrating it can be when you're the only one doing this wol. Dh didn't decide to join me the first time and he would sit there eating all the good stuff. Sometimes it's just as bad having him on plan though....
he's my carb police and sometimes I don't want him to be!!) I don't think I could do the CAD diet, as once I start eating carbs I tend to binge.... maybe after I've lost my weight I will change to that wol.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Kara

Default Hi

Hi all,

Well today and tomorrow are my last "cheat" days. Yesterday my husband brought me to a sea-food place and I had:

Clam Chowder
Sea Food plate with shrimp/garlic butter - battered shrimp (only 3) and lots of crab/garlic butter

So I guess that was pretty LC - I had a baked potatoe but didn't touch it except for one bite.

Dinner consisted of a huge cheat:

italian poutine

that's all I had to eat yesterday. So one LC meal, and one major cheat. I guess since I'm on CAD/CALP diet I'm allowed my one carby meal per day but it's supposed to contain veggies.

Anyhoo.... lets hope today is better and I'm looking forward to Monday to get back into the swing of things.
