Lightbulb Here I go again...

Autoimmune disease kicking my tail. A year of prednisone = 50lb weight gain.
It's been creeping up for years - no sugar, but occasionally eating out (once a month or something) and lots of junk-low-carb and lots and lots of nuts and I gained maybe 15lbs over my target weight over the course of several years. Then I started w. this autoimmune issue & I think a thyroid issue plus medication issues, and weight just piled on. Got off prednisone and lost 20 but then another medication change gave me back 10 and I'm pulling my hair out.
(Not literally. It's actually falling out by itself at this point, lol!!)

I'm going back to induction now, for the first time in many many years. Since I eat pretty low-carb anyway, I don't feel too bad, just - I miss nuts & cheese, lol! (I do best on the Atkins 72 version of induction as a kick-start) Made a lovely batch of baked eggs yesterday for snacks, and am hoping to make it for a whole week without checking my weight.
Wish me luck!!!

Hi and welcome. Hoo boy, I'd cry if I ever had to take prednisone. I don't doubt that it's a lifesaver, but the side effects. It turned my dad into someone I barely recognized, luckily he could come off it.

Atkins 72 sounds like a really good plan for autoimmune issues. Have you explored the AI specific recommendations for LC eating? I'm thinking of clinicians like Dr Perlmutter, Dr Wahls, and some of the carnivore crew. I can't find the recent threads at the moment, and I'm probably forgetting some of the obvious ones, but the general consensus seems to be that there are a lot of foods that healthy LCers can get away with that will cause trouble for people with AI issues - gluten, casein (dairy), seed oils, legumes, solanaciae vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant ), oxalates (certain leafy greens), nuts, eggs, chicken, breathing air ( j/k) ... not necessarily all of the above for everyone. An elimination diet followed by slowly testing out one food at a time has been helpful to many. All the label-reading can be a pain at first, but like that quote in my sig, it's only effort until it's routine. You memorize what you can and can't have.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

Hi, I was going to bed but saw your post and had to say hello and welcome.

You're not alone. I have several autoimmune diseases including Hashimoto's (thyroid), lupus with secondary Sjogren's, and fibromyalgia (in remission now).

It sucks and I feel your struggle. We have very similar starting weights and goals. I'll be following your journey.

Hopefully we inspire each other.
