That's one of the reasons I consider myself a mostly "SP1" person. I think she's dead wrong about protein. I believe that my body needs at least 100g of protein daily to prevent it from breaking down muscle protein to meet basic requirements. That's based on a lot of reading -- much of it contradictory, of course -- and personal experience, plus the facts that I'm active and do muscle-building exercise. I'm no doctor.
I figure that if the key things I take from Schwarzbein are these:
- eat whole, natural foods
- don't worry much about non-starchy veg carbs
- restrict other carbs
- avoid sugar, but have low-GI fruit in small servings sometimes
- consider the quality of food as much as the quantity
- enjoy plenty of non-damaged fats
- give preference to the least processed products
... then I'll be doing pretty well. And it's working so far.
