I have always been hot when no one else was. I froze my hubby to death. I never wore more than a jacket in the winter. Now it is summer and I am wearing long sleeves and at the office a jacket. I wear sandles most of the time because I like being barefoot but I have to keep socks here at work because I feel like my toes are gonna break off they are so cold. The other girl in the office is wearin sleevless shirts and normal summer clothes and is comfortable. What is going on? What am I gonna do this winter?
I wonder if it has something to do with hormones? I had exactly the same situation about 6 weeks ago - I have always been the one who is hot, then having to keep socks in my drawer at work, etc.!! It went on for about a month, but now seems to have spontaneously gone away. Maybe it won't be an issue for you by wintertime?
Could be hormones, could be deep ketosis, could be any number of things, but let me suggest/ask if you've recently or ever had your thyroid checked? An underactive thyroid gland can cause you to feel like you're freezing all the time. Good luck figuring it out.
Thanks for the replies.
Caveman, please elaborate on your statement, if your eating enough food.
I know my hormones were WAY out of wack but I believe they are better now than before. I had my thyroid checked a few years ago and at that time it was fine. I do need to go for a complete check up since it has been years my last. I always thought it was hormonal that I stayed hot all the time, literly sweating.
Really low carbs might mess up some people's thyroid functioning, and being really cold is a sign that that might be happening. You might find that by raising your carbs to 50 or so may help.
Tammie-
you have lost 40lbs of insulation- no wonder you are cold. I was freezing after I lost my weight, and it got much better the second year. Some of it may be hormonal too- fat cells secrete estrogen, and with fat loss your endogenous estrogen does go down. If you want to go to your doctor, fine. I will also tell you that on LC your cholesterol may first go up before it goes down- lots of good info on the heart and cholesterol threads. I mention this so if you go to your MD and it has been less than 6 months on LC you have info if they want a lipid profile as well as thyroid.
stay warm-

High soy intake can also lead to thyroid supression and symptoms of hypothyroid. Many diet foods....hell most processed foods, diet or not....contain soy. If you're getting enough calories I'd check soy as being a culprit.
Menopause should also be ruled out, especially if there's been any change in TOM.
I just wanted to agree with CindySue. Are you getting enough calories for your lifestyle? If you aren't this is a sign your metabolism is shutting down. That's not good. I hope you figure it out.
I too am freezing all the time. DH thinks that I've been replaced by an alien, because I was also always hot. LOL I did talk to my doctor and they are supposed to order a Thyroid test for me along with the rest of my labs. Good luck to you and I hope that you figure it out. I'll be checking to see if you find anything out.
