Default Thyroid and temperature

Really interesting article from Dr. Davis about using temperature to diagnose sub-clinical hypothyroidism.

I think that those are armpit temperatures, not oral temperatures

My ORAL temp is about 97.6. Since being on this WOE it has dropped to 96.5. I've started taking iodine as part of my regimen. I haven't checked my temp lately but my tolerance for cold has definitely improved.

He tells you why in the article. Your temperature doesn't peak until quite late in the day. And 98.6 is a totally bogus number anyway.

I think cold tolerance is a better way to tell. I can tell when I'm hypothyroid because temperatures where I'm normally warm I'm really cold at. If I can be in the house with it at 68' and not feel too bad, I think I'm doing pretty good.

I guess I'm just different. When my thyroids decent my temp starts at 97.8-98.0 and tops about 98.7. My underarm temp will be about 0.2 degrees lower.

Strangely my am temp is my highest lately. I'm thinking that's a rT3 thing. I feel plain awful now and my am temp today orally 97.4.

For years my body temperature was low (still is). I'm lucky if I get up to 96. I just went for a flu shot and I asked what my temp was -- the nurse said, "oh, its below normal so you can get the flu shot." Its amazing that in all the years I have had my temp checked at the doctor's office, they never comment on the low side -- never make the connection to my hypothyroid condition (like they never believe you that you don't really eat very much and yet are still overweight). They only are concerned when your temp is high, I guess. If I had 98.6, I would definitely be sick with a fever.

But I have come to the conclusion that my medical care has completely sucked for the last 50 years -- so I guess I'm not surprised.
