Default Can dessicated thyroid cause anxiety?

I'm not sure what's going on here. A couple weeks ago I saw a naturopath and she started me on dessicated thyroid. I noticed no change. My morning basal temperature has been consistently low.

But yesterday I got into a legal tangle (unrelated) and was very upset. Last night I could not sleep at all. This almost never happens to me. I've had insomnia only a handful of times in the past and even then, have managed to fall asleep by 4 am. Last night I watched the clock till about 5:30 am then slept only 20 - 30 minutes and bounded out of bed wide awake before 6:00 am. Today I've felt particularly anxious all day. I am in the midst of some real stress but I'm usually a more slow, non-energetic person.

Could it be the dessicated thyroid? I should feel very sleepy right now but I don't. Oddly, my fingers and toes are cold right now and they usually aren't. Should I stop taking this stuff? Maybe I accidentally took an extra dose yesterday? Maybe it's unrelated? Any ideas?

It could be that the thyroid levels in your body have built up and you are on too high of a dose. It takes a few weeks before there's enough in your body before you would notice it. That happened to me one time, and I recognize the signs now, with the non-sleeping and anxiety being the major signs. Maybe just skip taking the pills for a few days to see if you go back to normal, and then cut your pills in half and just take half a dose instead. Tell all this stuff to your dr when you next go in to have your levels checked.

Yes, probably the thyroid. Your dose might be too high or perhaps you need to treat your adrenal glands so you can handle it better.

Yes, absolutely (I took it for years). It should go away once your body is used to it and you've found the correct dose. If you are on Thyrolar (sp?) - the T4 one - that can be particularl anxiety inducing. You can have it compounded into a longer-acting formulation which may help.

Not to be too off-topic here, but I went off the natural thyroid a few months ago because it was impossible to find, there was some sort of hold up with one of the ingredients or something. Is it easier to find now? I would love to switch back but would have to find a new doctor down here. Thx and feel better!
