Default Traditional Spanish food (Paleo eating)

I wanted to share some traditional Catalan (Spanish) dishes that are a part of our daily lives here. Paleo eating is very easy here if you stick to traditional cooking. Hope you like looking at the pictures!

This is "All i Oli" or garlic and olive oil sauce.

Cod.

A traditional Catalan table.

Roast Piglet.

Fish called "Dorada".

Typical roast veggies.

Locally made pork products.

Pig's Cheeks with mountain snails.

Spanish cured ham.

Typical table setting.

Pig's Trotters.

A selection of pork products.

Rabbit with Mushrooms.

Squid.

Duck with Pears.

As you can see, most of the products here are Pork, which is very popular. Most of these dishes are from Catalonia, which is the North East of Spain, but every region has its own foods, so this is just a tiny selection that I wanted to show you. I'd love to see dishes from other countries, so please post yours!

I'm partial to the rabbit with mushrooms myself...very inclusive Nela, thanks!
Don't know about the "trotters" though...I'd keep thinking of athletes foot!

Digressing a bit...the weirdest thing I've eaten was duck toungue...very odd. They looked like fingers!

Uh, trust me, my food doesn't look anywhere that good. I am lucky to get a bunch of chicken thrown in the oven once a week and it is never fancy. Same goes with my hamburgers.

I keep waiting for the burst of energy that will come, and things are much better, but not great yet.

I really enjoyed the pics, I could go steal some out of a recipe book somewhere I guess. Marty

Hi Nela

Thanks for the picture of pig's cheeks and mountain snails, it took me right back to my childhood. I grew up after the Second World War, so I am what is referred to as a Mature Age Citizen!!!

I was born in the north east of England and when we went to the seaside (now referred to as the beach) there were stalls run by elderly ladies called "fish wives" who sold crabs, prawns, mussels, eels and cooked sea-snails. The snails came in various species such as "winkles" and "whelks". When you bought a paper bag of them you were given a pin, (as in dressmaking), which you used to dig the cooked mollusc out of its shell and slip it into your grateful mouth. It was a love / hate thing but I always regard it as a fond memory of the beach (oops...seaside!)

Glad you liked them, folks!
Michael, we have the fish wives here now in fact, just at market places, not selling their wares at the seaside. Go to any market and there's a great selection of fresh fish, etc on sale....makes shopping easier.
