Oh, how I've thought about it. But instead I try to keep it as consistent as I can. It's the physicist in me.

It's a medical beam balance so it has a continuous reading. It's marked in 0.25 lb increments, so getting a resolution of 1/8 lb is easy and 1/16 lb is not unreasonable, but its hysteresis is currently about 1/8 lb. It used to be better, but it's thirty years old and the pivot points are probably wearing. But I always round up to the next 0.5 lb to keep myself honest.
