Default Cheap coconut oil in Tesco

I've been without coconut oil since the Indian grocery near home closed down as I won't pay health food shop prices so was pleased to see that Tesco carry a 250 ml bottle of non-flavour coconut oil for £1.30!

http://www.tesco.com/groceries/prod...s/?id=260733086

Apparently they sometimes have the same brand in 500 ml jars for a couple of quid too.

I'm not sure how they expect anyone to spoon it out of a bottle as I have only had it in jars, but think that the effort of putting the bottle in the microwave to melt it before use will be worth it.

I've had a jar for weeks and haven't talked myself into trying it yet. Has it a coconut flavour?

No the ktc brand doesn't - it's good for cooking in for that reason.

I'm really p***ed with Tesco!!

I placed an "click and collect" order for some 250gm bottles (though they list the 500gm tubs they are listed as out of stock) along with some other stuff to make the minimum £25 free collection amount and turned up in the rain this morning to be told "the coconut oil is out of stock"!!

So a wasted morning/petrol and no coconut oil!

I might send them a message and ask them to let me know when it is back in stock.

I wonder how long the refund to my debit card will take?

Well - Kudos to Tesco's refund department!
The refund has been credited to my bank account already while the original debit is still appearing in the "debits waiting to be applied" section.

After ordering just the KTC coconut online again I turned up to the Tesco Collect area to be told that it is not in stock!! Obviously the cheap brand is not available in all their large stores, just the pricey organic stuff. So I have given up on Tesco for this.

Today I went on to Ebay and found a pack of 6 x 500 ml of the same stuff for sale at £15.65 including free postage, which works out at £2.60 per 500 ml jar.

I thought that was a good price so didn't look anywhere else. 6 jars will fit in my cupboard easily and will keep for ages, so I am happy to buy in bulk

The CO arrived promptly and seems fine. As it is not coconutty in taste it will work well in many recipes

Just a word of caution - the label has some kind of foil on it, so when I put an un-lidded jar in the microwave to melt some I got sparks!!

So I removed the label and it was OK.

http://www.spicesofindia.co.uk/

This is a good place for coconut oil, nut flours, spices etc. the site is weirdly organised so just use the search function if you can't find something. They have ktc brand, but you have to use search.
