Question Yogurt - yes or no on Candida diet?

I keep reading different things about yogurts and candida diet.

As we all know, yogurt contains some lactose. One portion of greek yogurt contains 6-7g of sugar. On the other hand, it contains probiotics.

So, am I allowed to have fat free, plane, greek yogurt on Candia diet?

Thank you!

Mike

Well, it is a slow forum, and I missed your post the first time. But I caught your bump...

In my opinion, lactose is not the only problem with yogurt, but candida opinions vary. The Specific Carbohydrate Diet allows yogurt, but only if you ferment it yourself for 24 hours, which gets rid of more lactose.

But yogurt still has plenty of casein, which has numerous side effects, including those of casomorphin, a morphine-like peptide that can cause brain fog and constipation. It may not relate directly to candida, but anything affecting your immune system (which casein does) is likely to affect candida or other microbial overgrowth problems.

Even the probiotics are a bit controversial in candida diets - some versions don't allow any fermented foods. In my opinion this is too extreme, and it's driven by the coincidence that many modern fermented foods are either dairy-based or yeast-fermented. But sauerkraut seems perfectly safe for candida, and I recommend it. You'll probably have to make it yourself if you want the live probiotics, but that's pretty easy - it just takes time. It's worth it!
