Default Fat Calculating Scales?

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum - my apologies if it isn't.

I have seen advertised a scale that calculates not only your weight but also body fat.

Is this an accurate and reliable weightloss tool?

Please advise.

Default fat calculating scales

I too have seen these scales though are a bit on the expensive side

I too would like to know if they actually work as well as they claim.

They site accuracy rates of +/- 5% for the Tanita scales.

Which ever method you use to calculate fat ration, is will have similar or higher variations, unless it's done at a facility that has a DEXA (dual dnergy X-ray absorptiometry) machine.

Some easier methods are charts and calipers. But the good news is that whichever method you use, they are good at tracking changes afterward.

I have one of these scales, and I can say that as a SCALE, it is very accurate.
The body fat part is consistent, if not accurate. The pamphlet claims it can be off by 8 percentage points for women and 3 percentage points for men.
But it does show a trend. When we first got the scale 40 lbs ago, it said I was 43%. Now it says 32-36%, depending on the time of the month and time of day.
I've had mine for about 3 or 4 years now, and I love it. I've even bought one for my mom!
HTH!

I also have one of these scales. The one I bought is more money than the base model. It has memory and reads fat in 0.1%. I wouldn't recommend buying this one. The saleman talked me into it. I think you would be better of getting one of the cheaper ones. I find the reading for fat to vary all day depending on how much water or food I had. In the morning I am at the fattest (according to the scale) After dinner I am the skinnest. My one moves about 2% over the course of the day.
