Thank you Karen! After all this time of using Konnyaku without any of the negative starchy carb side-effects, I knew there had to be an explanation.

DH and I will be in Vancouver again on Friday, but this time for my Grandmother's funeral (she was 100, bless her heart) so we won't be able to stop in at the Fish House on this trip. I'll wave at it and say "hi" as we drive by Stanley Park though.

Thanks Karen. I have avoided them until now. Living in Japan I can get them fresh and will very soon. I have a question for those who eat them regularly: What do they taste like? Are they like cellophane or mung bean noodles and take on the flavor of what they are put with? Do they get slimey like they look?

I'll have to give them a try.

They're not slimy at all. More bouncy and slightly chewy.

Yes, I find them almost chewy, kind of like a rice vermicelli but a little more firm in texture. I'm all about texture in my foods, and I love the texture of these. There isn't much else you can compare it to, which is why I like the texture - it's unusual. I actually don't even like "real" pasta anymore, it just seems so mushy!

4beans...look in your grocery store near the tofu and other packaged asian noodles. They come in a little plastic carton immersed in water and packaged in a clear plastic wrapper. I can take a pic of a package of mine at home to post for you if it might help?

I hope you'll find them, I just love them now!

Here is a picture of the package, so you'll know what to look for.

Thanks Karen! So are they actually in a fluid? On a dry goods shelf, or in the refridge area?

They're packed in water and in the fridge. Generally they seem to hang out with the tofu.

You're welcome Becky! Karen, I wish I could find your brand, mine doesn't have nutritional info on the packaging, I just relied on your nutritional info. I'm leaving for Vancouver in a couple of hours, so maybe I'll stop into a grocery store and buy a couple of your brand to take home. Are there any new LC shops I should check out while I'm in Van?

I just spoke with one of my japanese coworkers and he told me that they make konyaku chips, konyaku udon noodles (thicker style noodles) and assorted flavors of konyaku ramen here in japan along with the shiritake. I can't wait to explore the Japanese grocery stores and drug stores here. In Japan, Konyaku is considered a diet or weightloss food so they sell it in the diet section of drug stores. I'll report back about my adventures.

I put some konyacku noodles in prawn tom yam soup last night. It was very good.

I also have also use the K-noodle to make the Yakisoba ( stir-fried noodles, Japanese style). It is not bad.

Perhaps i will try to make some sort of Pad Thai next.
