A calorie is a calorie, right? Wrong, argues pediatrician, sugar-nemesis and author of best-selling book ‘Fat Chance’, Dr Robert Lustig, who caught up with FoodNavigator-USA at the Natural Products Expo West trade show in Anaheim last week.

Good, brief interview with Lustig. The more I listen to Lustig and Ludwig and Westman and Hallberg and Gerber and others who have both clinical experience and research awareness, one consistent and simple guideline for all people is to avoid at all costs processed foods. No matter whether they are labeled "healthy," typically they are manufactured with sugars or sweeteners and other chemicals that enhance flavor and extend shelf life. Whole foods seem to be the answer and my personal WOE is just that, the consumption of healthy whole foods and the rigorous avoidance of processed, manufactured foods especially highly processed chemically rendered seed oils.
