Default Long Term Weight Loss for Thyroid Patients: Hormonal Factors That Affect Diets

Long Term Weight Loss for Thyroid Patients: Hormonal Factors That Affect Diets

I'm doing the HCG diet now with Rx hcg. Losing quite nicely and hoping I can stabilize my loses when I'm done with the current phase (2/12/11).

I'll be getting my RT3 retested when I'm in the maintenance phase of the diet and we'll be able to see if the HCG has affected my large RT3 issue.

Thank you Nancy for this paper, I'm very interested in this subject. Mary Shommon has a 4 week weight loss seminar by email. Last weeks was on weightloss plans for hypothyroidism, including HCG! There were 27 positive responses to the HCG diet from people that are hypo.

I tested high for rT3, mine was 6.9, normal is over 20. I dropped armour for cytomel for 9 weeks. The last 3 weeks I've dropped 15lbs keeping my carbs 45-50 and not watching calories at all. I'm in the middle of advanced peri-menopause getting bigger through the hips and abdomen every month. Its the easiest weight I've ever lost. Really worthwhile to get tested for rT3. Note: it takes 12-15 weeks to clear rT3 but I'm already seeing improvement.

If I continue to test high for RT3 I'll talk to my ND about taking a smaller dose of armor and some cytomel to go with it. I'm hoping the hcg will clear it, and the subsequent leptin issues that go hand-in-hand with high rt3.

Nancy I'm really curious to see how your thyroid tests after this- although we have totally different types of hypo.

I'm in my third week of maintaining using LC. I cut out the fruit I was eating and my weight is going DOWN! The reason I'm so excited is because before doing hCG (RX injections) I couldn't lose weight on LC... I could sort of maintain, but I was even going up a bit.

The advice from one hcg site is to calculate your BMR and try not to exceed those calories. With the fruit, it seems like 1500 calories and I was going up a bit. However, now without the fruit I'm pushing 1700 (yesterday nearly 2000) and I'm losing a bit.

This is really exciting because LC really hasn't worked for me in years and years.

I'll be getting my RT3 testing at the end of the month, it'll have been a full 3 weeks maintaining then. So hopefully the RT3 from the very low calories will be cleared out.

Next round of HCG I'll try doing without the fruit at all and see how it works. I am noticing my blood sugar responds very badly to fruit now.

What is HCG? I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis along with Fibromyalgia and I have a very difficult time losing weight. I'm also on a lot of meds that could be keeping me from losing weight.

Here's a pdf of the Simeons' protocol. Just google "pounds and inches pdf" if this one doesn't work.

Basically it's a very low calorie diet for a short period followed by low carb, then somewhat higher carb (optional). The hcg is supposed to help with hunger and burning abnormal, instead of structural, fat stores.

There's an HCG diet thread in the challenge sub-forum if you want to see what we're up to.
