Unhappy Diagnosed with PCOS

Hi,

Yesterday i was disgnosed with PCOS Since i have not menstruated for many months the doctor prescribed Primolut N ( progesterone) for me for a week to stimulate my period. Then he said that until i want to have a baby i should use birth control pill to regulate my hormones.

I also took the hormone testing and my estradiol is very low (<5)

I have gained lots of weight and i do not want to gain anymore.

Am i seeing the right doctor? Is there anything else i could do to help with the PCOS??

Thank you very much,

Chutatip

You should be seeing a gynogcologist. And BC is what they put you on if you are not planing to have a baby. If you were very overweight the dr would have added Metformin.

ok ... you might want to consider seeing a reproductive endocrinologist... they can help with the hormonal issues surrounding PCOS.... even if you are not ready right now to have a baby.... on the other hand, are your stats still right?... at 100 lbs you are well within normal weight for someone just under 5 feet tall.... or have you gained a lot since you first started low carbing??good luck and I hope your problems clear up

yes i am LCing :-)

I know that the doctor recommends that i use BCP until i want to get pregnant but i really do not want to do it. Does anyone know whether there is any alternatives to BCP that i can consider?

thanks,

I have to agree with everyone else on this one. I am 43 and one doctor wanted to put me on bc.... for what? I've had my tubes tied & certainly don't want anymore even if I could. She wanted to treat the symptoms and not take care of the problem. Since I have been on Glucophage I have had 4 periods in a row within days of each other (I am now thinking I must be crazy but that's a whole 'nother story). Glucophage does make you extra extra fertile though, so you need to be on some type of bc if you don't want to get pregnant.....
