Question Are these results ok?

Hi all, I posted these in another thread, but thought I might get a response here. I'm 52, and a post menopausal female with a strong family history of both type 1 & 2 Diabetes, although have not been diagnosed myself.
Last year's results, taken as part of a routine screening:
Fasting blood sugar result of 6.3 mmols/L,
oral GTT result of 5.7mmol/L at 0 mins and 7.2mmol/L at 120mins.
Lipids:
Total Cholesterol 5.3mmol/L
Triglycerides 0.5 mmol/L
HDL 1.9 mmol/L
TCH/HDL Ratio 2.8
LDL 3.2 mmol/L

Blood Pressure 160/105

I was given the usual standard dietary/lifestyle advice and advised to be re-tested in a year. Three months ago I restarted my LC lifestyle, and I've lost almost 2 stones in that 3 months. My body mass index is now 34, so still a heck of a way to go.

I had HbA1c and fasting lipids tests done last week. Got my results yesterday:

HbA1c - 5.8%

Total Cholesterol: 5.8 mmols/L
Triglycerides: 0.6 mmols/L
HDL Cholesterol: 1.9 mmols/L
TC/HDL ratio: 3.1
LDL Cholesterol: 3.6 mmols/L

Blood pressure 125/85

Apart from Blood pressure, I'm struggling to see whether anything else has improved or not? Do these results make sense to anyone, and am I on the right track?

For those wondering:

73mg/dl - HDL (>60 preferable)
44 - trigs (<150 preferable)
123mg/dl - LDL

You're doing great in the lipid component.

Your HbA1c is really high though, 5.6% is seen as the cut-off for diabetes.

Thanks Jay for the reply and the translation of the lipid values. I am a bit concerned about the HbA1c to be honest. I was hoping the weight loss would have had a bigger impact.
I have to go in and see the doc about the results later this week.

You may want to talk to your doctor about ChromeMate (chromium polynicotinate - NOT picolinate or any other version of chelated chromium) and Zinc Gluconate, both show pretty good reductions in HbA1c; along with a low carb diet that number should go down

Thank you! Have just purchased both (from ebay) and will give them a try. There would be little point in discussing it with the doc, they tend to think they know best here. I am desperate to avoid Diabetes if at all possible.

A post you may want to look at is Hyperlipids' "Physiological Insulin Resistance" for more thoughts on the matter of HbA1c vs blood glucose levels. Basically, since we prefer fatty acids for energy our fasting glucose is probably our least effective way of seeing if a low-carber has insulin resistance.

Just a tip.
