Default Trans Fats in Instant Coffee?

Is instant coffee considered healthy? Or is filtered coffee preferred? Mainly due to convenience and (also taste), I drink instant coffee such as Nescafe at work.

I've heard recently that instant coffee is freeze dried (or roasted) with margarine and/or hydrogenated oils and have trans fats in them. (Come to think of it, there seems to be a trace of grease when you make instant coffee.)

I tried a google search but could not verify this information. Does anyone know?

Hi Max, I got a kit years ago, It came with 1Lb. coffee beans and heavy frying pan. All you do is put the beans in the pot on low heat and brown them to what you like ! (NO OIL) As far as instant coffee, I don't know , But I can see why they would add oil, Coffee has its own oil. <Me I add real butter and HWC mmmmmm) I hope this helps (: Ron*

Coffee contains oil naturally, however you rarely see it unless you use a french press or espresso machine. Usually the paper filter catches most of it. I doubt freeze dried coffee has transfats.

...unless it's the foofy flavoured instant coffee. I seem to recall the ones in the little tins, "International Coffees" or something like that, had hydrogenated oils in them.
