Default Finally I can make a gym log

At long last I finally dragged myself out to the gym.
30 minutes exercise bike on the calorie burning mode. I burned 115 calories.
5 minutes jogging on the treadmill and a 10 minute cool down stroll.
Bench pressed 6 reps of 12 with a 30 pound weight. (more about toning than muscle building for me)

Worked out my inner thighs and groin with 70 pounds resistance both ways.
Outer thighs and butt with 70 pounds resistance both ways.

I was surprised I was able to work out so much. I would not have done this well before I lost the 25 pounds. I am going back tomorrow morning and everyday from here on.

Hey there -

Good job with the weight loss! Great to see it go down, isn't it?

Couple of tips, from one who has done it the right way and the wrong way:

Do your lifting FIRST. It'll burn more fat than the other way around.

And there's no such thing as toning. There's only building.

Also, weightlifting, especially if you can lift heavy enough, raises your metabolic rate for hours, or even days, after you lift. The more muscle you have and work, the more fuel you will need, just to sit around.
It will speed your fat loss.

Also,

Try to not work the same body part two days in a row, and be sure to take at least one day a week entirely off, to let your body heal and recover from all the hard work you are doing.

Keep it up!

Thanks for the info. I will take your advice and do lifting first. I woke up today and knew I had overdone the lifting. My arms are sore and so are my legs. I am going to alternate upper and lower body every other day. I am also going to take a day off a week from lifting altogether.

I did the same cardio exercise yesterday and I have not been yet today, but I am going to do a cardio workout. My arms and legs are sore right now so I do not want to push the lifting today.

Well, I completed my fourth straight day of working out. I was only able to do cardio today because I got to the gym late after work and class. I am going to do weight training on my lower body tomorrow and on my upper body Sunday. Monday the gym is closed so I will give my body some rest and time to heal.

Take it easy, fella - Rome wasn't built in a day, either!

3 days lifting, alternate 3 days cardio, one day OFF ENTIRELY is PLENTY. And as you get leaner, the lifting will take over, and the cardio will become less and less significant to your maintenance and progress.

Glad to hear you're working so hard! You're doing GREAT things for your body!

I can't WAIT to see what your progress looks like by next summer! You won't recognize yourself!

Thanks Built. I am meeting with a personal trainer tonight. I decided to do it after I injured myself doing curls of all things. I am still doing cardio and lower body regularly, but will have to give my upper body some rest.

I do have a question for those in the know:

I have noticed that my dominant arm is weaker than my other arm. This causes a bit of trouble when I lift. I am doing some extra work on the weaker arm, any ideas or strategies on how to strengthen my left arm?

It should equalize by itself - just don't let yourself get ahead of yourself by pushing the stronger arm - always wait for the weaker arm to "catch up" before incrimenting your weights, and stick to dumbbells rather than machines or barbells - force the isolation.
