Pat
The only difference betwee the CAD new and old editions is the emphasis on balance in the RM. All other facits are the same.

I am absolutely delighted to find this section on the forum as I have recently switched to the CALP after being on Bernstein (because of my diabetes). Bernstein was very good in helping with the bg levels but I just couldn't lose weight after the initial loss and I have tons left to lose. Strangely, since switching to CALP I have found my bg levels falling even lower into the normal range and am delighted. By the way, I scored 48 out of 50 in the test in the book so I am definitely Carbohydrate Addicted

If you're still losing inches, you're probably still losing fat and should stick with Atkins/South Beach. In other words you're not really in a stall. However, the stall list for CAD (Carbohydrate Addicts Diet) is a good list for those on Atkins too.

I'm surprised not to see coffee on the list (black coffee). As a diabetic i have the advantage of being able to measure the impact different foods have on my body (and I know its a personal thing). Coffee definately causes a drop and spike in my insulin. Given that CAD/CALP is so strict on AS, I'm surprised coffee is allowed as it actually impacts me whereas AS does not.

For most CAs it's the AS that impackts but in CALP the Hellers acknowledge the impact of caffeine on some and abstaining from it is one of the suggested strategies.

Default give up pop?

OK I have not read the book on CAD.
Where do I get the book?
I drink coffee in the mornings and water all day.
I like my diet rite at night. So am I not supposed to have coffee and diet rite?
I can give up food easier than those things LOL

Default Thinking of switchin to CAD...coffee question

I've been on Atkins since mid June. Initially lost about 7 pounds and nothing since....I keep going up and down the same 1 pound. My clothes don't feel any looser (and I haven't been measuring...maybe I should start) I do feel better following this WOE...more energy, not as sluggish, etc. I am thinking of switching to CAD to "shake things up" I've read that coffee is limited on CAD....does this also apply to decaf? I currently drink my coffee with cream...I guess I could learn to drink it black if I could continue with decaf.

Hi Suze-Q

You can drink the coffee, but you can only have cream 1 time per day and it has to be drank within 15 minutes. Black coffee preferably decafe you can have throughout the day. If you were drinking coffee with cream throughout the day on Atkins that might be one of the reason why you have been stalled. I know it is allowed, but it still adds up in calories really fast. Just a guess here on my part.

Good luck if you make the switch. CAD is a very livable program.

Ladies, would someone explain to me how this works and exactly what this is. I've been doing Atkins for awhile and one of the ladies on our forum suggested we all come here and read up on this. I'll a little confused so please explain .
