Default Kids and Eggs

My kids (a 2nd grader and a toddler) have taken a liking to eating eggs (probably since I eat them like they're going out of style, lol). My husband is concerned that they're eating too many eggs a day. They each eat 2 eggs a day on average.

Should I be concerned? They don't follow a low carb diet (probably 150 grams or so a day for each child), so I'm wondering if the cholesterol in eggs will affect them negatively.

Stop worrying. Eggs are perfect food. Ingested cholesterol isn't what causes the dangerous blood cholesterol the doctors freak out about. That is caused by a diet high in carbohydrates and fructose.

They should eat as much as they want. My two youngest beg for raw eggs to slurp down.

I won't sweat it then.

Still trying to get my husband to see a different point of view other than the "eat low fat to stay healthy" mantra that's dished out by so much of mainstream media. Sometimes I think he's ready to listen, but then he throws out a concern like the cholesterol in whole eggs. From what I've read, it's the excess carbs that trigger damage to the arteries, but when it comes to my kids...well, I get nervous and unsure all over again. Oh, the power of mass misinformation.

There have been alot of popular articles rehabilitating eggs in the last few years - it's the one low carb message that seems to have wide support. A mainstream nutritionist told my mom a few years back to eat at least nine eggs a week.

Get a copy of good calories bad calories by Gary Taubes. All the research in there is well documented and it will keep you from being led astray.
