Well, for me using that formula it's something like 122 grams of protein even using an unrealistically low goal weight I don't think I'm ever actually going to weigh. But with that much more protein (and less fat to make up the difference) I don't think I'd be able to stay in nutritional ketosis, which means feeling more hungry even if the overall number of calories didn't change, just the percentages of protein and fat, since ketosis tends to tamp down my hunger in a desirable way.

I'm getting 80 with Jenny and 88 with P/V. I could probably stay in that range, but I would also have to push the fat up to stay in NK I think (darn the expensive ketone strips!).

I was able to go from 236 to 222 in a few months in NK - and lower protein, maybe 65 to 70. Recently I got tired of eating that way, so I eased up a bit. My weight jumped to 227, my fasting blood glucose jumped from the 109 range to 136, and I'm not in NK anymore.

I can't say I ever felt great while in NK - a persistent low-level hunger. Nevertheless I'm back on the diet as of today. I'm not great on the diet, but I'm worse off of it.

I can join all of you torn over which way to go on protein requirements, one week I try to keep it low, next week, someone convinces me it should be higher. Dr. Layman, recently on ATLCX, made a good argument for 30 g each meal.

That keeps me well satisfied, never hungry between meals.
Just another viewpoint to confuse the issue even more...

I thought I read someplace( I am sure it was a paper written by Phinney, I'll see if I can find it) to use the LBM instead of goal weight in his formula. I could be wrong.

ETA - I was wrong the paper I just looked at says the reference weight= ideal weight. Here is the link to the paper. It has a lot of the the stuff that's in the book.

Just looking through the notes on Jimmy Moore's latest blog post. He comments that 80-85 grams of protein works best for him. He's a good deal bigger and taller than I am, so ...

I did find I was doing best (for weight loss) when I tried to hold it down to 60 or so. But I didn't feel great at that level.

But... how do you know part of that loss isn't muscle?

No idea at all.

You know what sucks? People blame fat people for being fat. It's a "behavior problem," you know. It's so tempting to just give up.

I tried doing something like that - splitting the protein up over 3 meals. I'm not accustomed to eating breakfast. I learned - again - that I'm less hungry at lunch if I "skip" breakfast. (In fact, I do get quite a few calories at breakfact time from my cream and coconut oil. It's nearly all fat though.)

I saw your post this morning, so I had gave it another try. 20 grams of protein at breakfast. I'm really hungry now (at about 12:30). Normally on a Saturday I wouldn't be thinking about lunch until like 2 or 3.

I thought- if a giant guy can lose one pound of fat a week - another reason a little older lady should be pleased with 1/2 pound a week.

Not to mention the body recomposition, too.

Truly impressive results, especially the adding of muscle mass while losing the fat. I can remember reading that adding muscle while losing weight is supposed to be darned near impossible.

Reading down through the comments I noticed Jimmy saying he tried to set up meetings with both AC and Dur-banana-ian while he is in Australia and both declined. Hmmm. Now what's up with that? Makes me wonder if they have gotten fat and sloppy and don't want to be seen.

I can't get a grip on exactly how much fat to consume (trying for at least 65%). I'm just never hungry anymore, but need a vehicle for the fat. Can barely choke down half a burger or a slice of bacon before I'm stuffed.
