Default How to know if you are over-exercising

This has been a common concern for me since reading TSP and wondering where the happy medium is when knowing how hard/much to exercise. Well, I went to see a naturopath today and learned A LOT about my body! He thinks my lack of ability to lose weight is directly related to my adrenals and my thyriod so I will be having those tested (the physical exam he did confirmed what he thought).
Anyway--we were talking about exercise and I was telling him what Schwar. says about over-exercising and how it can have a negative affect on your adrenals and he told me a way to guage if you are doing too much.
He said to take your temperature when you wake up (or before you exercise--I walk in the mornings). Then wait an hour after you are done your workout and take your temp again. If it is the same or higher--you're doing good (he said higher is actually better and shows that it is benefitting you). If it is lower, than you are doing too much. Pretty cool--I'm going to try it tomorrow and see what happens.
He spent almost 3 hours with me and I now feel like I have some hope! He throroughly explained how your adrenals, thyriod and hormones all affect your metabolism and why mine is slow. I'm sure it's a lot like what Dr S. does with her testing and supplements, but it was nice to have someone face-to-face and for him to tell me that I am doing everything right right now (he loves TSP way of eating and says it is VERY healthy. He reminded me that fat does not make you fat!).
I still haven't weighed myself (I got my period 2 days ago), but I might get on when my period leaves. I think I have stayed the same which is ok with me for now since I feel *really* good and healthy and my skin looks great with all these good fats! I will be very curious to see if his plan works for me. I have to get all the tests done first though before he will give me anything so that will be a few weeks from now. I'll keep you posted

I don't believe in Naturopaths.
Like Jerry Seinfeld says of those
folks, "The aren't a Dr. but they
play one in real life."

If you feel like you are gonna
pass out. That's when I know
I have had too much exercise.
Even then a bit of a quick carb
boost with electrolytes and I am
usually good to go.

Just my two cents. YMMV.

Good Luck in
Your Weightloss Goals.

I have to strongly disagree with you there! This man spent more time with me in one appt than any conventional Dr has spent with me in all my years combined! He also took the time to actually sit next to me and totally explain how my entire body works in regards to hormones, thyroid and adrenal function. No "regular" Dr has EVER done that for me.
I have no doubt that this man is extremely educated and I have a sense of hope. Of course all this to say that I lean very much towards natural remedies and modalities because I truly believe that our bodies were made to heal themselves in most cases and sometimes all we need is a little push. I have lost a lot of faith in our medical system and our current state of "here's a new drug to fix anything that ails you". How about some preventative stuff instead of just trying to put a bandaid on whatever is wrong???

I'll take my naturopath over my general care provider any day!!!!

I think if the naturopath works for you, then great!! MDs are not gods. And he sounds like he's knowledgeable about the Schwarzbein plan. It seems so many doctors give advice/criticism without any real nutrition knowledge.
