Thumbs down Fail

Went to a party at my husband's sergeant's house. Went off diet to be polite and eat what was offered. Two days into Atkins and I'm starting over again in the morning. I failed... already.

Well, if you learned something from the experience then it wasn't a failure, it was a learning experience. Did you learn anything? Like perhaps... don't go off the diet "to be polite"?

I have to deal with really tough dietary restrictions due to being "allergic" to wheat. So I've had to learn to speak up to people when I'm going to eat out. It's a very important skill to have. Mostly though, I just try to avoid those situations since people rarely understand or have much compassion about eating restrictions.

Another good skill to have is "faking" your food consumption. If, and only if, you have the willpower to avoid eating what's on your plate, you can allow your plate to have a few of the carbier things and just sort of pretend to eat them. If there's anything legal for your diet, do eat them and people probably won't notice you didn't eat the carby stuff along with it.

For me, this works for savory foods but not for sweets. If somebody puts a piece of cake or a brownie in front of me, I already know I'm going to eat it, so I can't allow that to happen .

I've also learned that in MOST situations, there are low carb options. I used to just give up before even getting there. After multiple useless give-ins, I think back and realize it really wasn't necessary.
Just think of it as an opportunity you had for learning something and move on. Day 1 is now today. Begin again.

Don't beat yourself up, It was only one day - a hiccup - you will succeed & then perhaps you'll thank the hiccup for making you more determined.

Thanks for the advice and support. You all rock! I woke up sick as heck today and I figure that's punishment enough. I'm back on track and ready to be a success story!
