Hi Kit - so glad you made it here! Oh, yes, forgot about your upcoming surgery. Take one day at a time. We all struggle.

CaCO - How do you cook the turnips? What kind of turnip do you use? The only turnip I am familiar with is rutabaga.

I didn't weigh today, my carby meal from yesterday is probably affecting me.

Hopefully more folks will chime in this thread.

I went way off plan yesterday. One indulgence (a tortilla) led to another. Sometimes I can handle just one carby indulgence and sometimes I can’t. Best plan is to avoid altogether. The good news is I saw my Dr for pre-op and he said I could still take Magnesium which helps with the leg cramps I get from low carbing. (Previously received written info said to stop all supplements.) So I can get back to being a bit more restrictive now.

Kit – it’s ok. Don’t beat yourself up. The important thing is to focus and do better today. One day at a time. Good news about the magnesium. I take it daily also to avoid leg cramps, but mine are not from LC. I’ve suffered with nocturnal leg cramps since I was in grade school.

Hoping to hear from CaCO and anyone else who cares to join this little group.

Last night I met a friend for dinner. We went to a steakhouse. I had a yummy ribeye, side salad and I did have a baked sweet potato. We visited for 3 hours! She and I work together and have for about 8 years. She is out on leave right now. It was wonderful to see her and catch up.

Ack, I didn’t weigh today. Will do so tomorrow.

Happy Friday All!

I was indeed bad yesterday. I haven't seen my son in awhile so I let him pick where to eat. It was a burger and wing shack type of place. I'm not a fan of wings, and this wasn't the type of place that was going to give me a burger with a fork and a knife. It was HORRIBLE anyway! Think frozen patty that's cooked to death. Oh well, at least it was fun to hang out with him.

The turnips I buy are in the produce section under the name of....turnips, LOL! Seriously, they are about the size of a baseball and kind of look like a radish on steroids. I use a peeler to get off the outside purple skin, then I boil them with cloves in the water. Take them out and cube them up, and drench them in butter, SO GOOD, and they look just like a potato that way.

Glad to hear you girls had good visits last night. I did not have an excuse to eat out but did anyway and didn’t stay low carb. Self discipline is not my thing. Working on it though. Hope to make you ladies proud one day.

I think half the battle is making better choices when given the opportunity, not being perfect in this low carb world. Having said that, I went so far off the good choices plan yesterday I’m just not weighing until Monday, lol!!! I’ll make better choices the rest of the weekend and hopefully be back on track by then.

Happy weekend everyone!!!

I was good and low carb yesterday but calories were probably high - I didn’t track them yet. I was reminded reading around this site how it helps to eat when hungry when trying to get into ketosis.

I enjoy this site. It’s nice to see all the older posts with success stories of people just doing plain old low carb.

Temps are supposed to be in the 100s today and I have lots of running around to do. Blood test, hair appt and tax appt. Can’t wait until it’s all done and I’m home again. Have a great Saturday all!

I agree that making better choices is the goal. I once heard that if you are 80% on plan, then that is huge! And we are all human and slip up here and there. I think the most important thing is that we keep trying. Trying to make better choices. Looking at why we messed up and figuring out what to do to not make that mistake again.

My struggle is around the long hours I work and meal planning. I need to get better at it. I am still working on it.

We ended up going to our property last night after work. Got there around 8 and it was still so hot and humid! We thought it might have cooled down a bit. Saw a beautiful doe (female white tailed deer) about 20 yards away from us in our field! She was so beautiful; just munching on the grass. We stayed still and quiet, except for the camera shutter. She kept looking up at us trying to get us to move to determine what we were. We knew to be quiet and still and just enjoy her beauty. She eventually sauntered off into the woods.

All that to say, dinner was not LC. I know I said I would weigh in today but I am not going to do it now. Ack. And on top of that, my hormones are all messed up this week. I might wait until Monday to weigh too!

Enjoy the weekend! Woohoo!

Sosumi - sounds like a beautiful evening at your property. Deer are so beautiful and fun to watch.

I used a mild annoyance as an excuse to go off plan yesterday. I guess I just don’t want it badly enough. Trying again today and will join the Monday weigh-in tomorrow. I hope we all get a big does of mojo and discipline to make the right choices today.

I had a busy Saturday. My usual lunch with Dad and I ended up buying his car from him. My brother took away dad's keys, dad has dementia and shouldn't be driving anymore.

The car is 4 yrs old and has low mileage. I was driving my MIL's 17 year old car the last 2 years, as my car died 2 years ago. I resisted buying a new car. because I don't want car payments. Also, it is crazy what new cars cost these days!

Dinner wasn't too off low carb, still not great. I went to a couple thrift stores yesterday and did lots of walking! My knees and feet were killing me. I got the prettiest little purse in robin's egg blue! I originally went there to get clothes for going up to our property that we can treat with permethrin. That is a pesticide derived from chrysanthemums that you can use to treat clothing. It stays in the clothing for something like 10 washes. Is better to combat ticks and is less toxic to us than deet.

Kit - I totally get the struggle. We can do this together.

CaCO - how are you?

Well, the number on the scale was expected, but still frustrating. I seem to do good on LC for a few days then something happens to derail me. I need to plan better. Not a revelation to me. At least I am usually good at lunch, it is dinner that I struggle with. I need to make something for me and DH. And getting home late doesn't help.

This week and next week I am going to be super busy at work. Yesterday, I made several servings of chicken salad. I also cooked up some hot dogs. Lunch is ready for today and tomorrow.

Happy Monday!

Well, I was off the rails this weekend. It all started with daughters best friend. I received an emergency pick up call from her mom. The baby she had to deliver by emergency C-section a few weeks ago was home and doing well. She took her to a pediatric appointment for a check up and while they were there the baby stopped breathing. The baby was with doctors, they transported her by ambulance to a local hospital who stabilized the baby and sent her onto the children's hospital. My job was to get the 10 year old. So when she wanted pizza and cake for dinner I was not going to argue with the child, I also felt the need for some chocolate and cake at that point, LOL! The baby is fine now, she is coming home tomorrow, but whew, scary stuff!

I'm trying something new for awhile. Previously I had been eating under 20 carbs a day for a month...I didn't loose much and I also didn't have energy. Now granted, my life has been off the chain lately with drama, so maybe that has something to do with my energy level. However, new plan.

Make better choices, but don't shoot for a specific LC goal, and daily exercise. I spent 30 minutes at the gym this morning, then I ate what I wanted to for breakfast. I'll track my weight for a month of doing this and see how it goes. If it's still not going well I will incorporate my exercise with my previous LC plan.

So, start over is:
7/29/19 = 231.00

I’m giving up. At least until end of the month. Looking for a reset as of Aug 1. Haven’t had the focus or time to shop, meal plan, cook, etc.

Caco - Good luck with your new plan and good job getting up and exercising this morning.

Sosumi - Good job with the meal prep.

Ow!

Lol! I thought 2 miles on the bike and 10 minutes on my arms would ease me back into working out, well I was half right. My legs are okay, my arms HURT!!!! No arms today! Ugh!

7/29/19 = 231.0
7/30/19 = 232.0 (there has to be swelling for this amount of discomfort)
