How awful, I hope your daughter didn't have any lasting complications from that. Sure it was a scary hospital stay for everyone. Since that post about Cipro, have also read the new book Missing Microbes, about the overuse of antibiotics and the Z-pak was mentioned. So often I hear friends having some type of standard issue cold and going to their doctor for a z-pak, way over-treating with possible dangerous side-effects.
Another big fan of getting Vitamin D from the sun here, though also just learned ability to make it declines with age. At 63, even with a deep tan, I still supplement to keep the level over 50. There is a great long standing thread about everything Vitamin D over here. http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthre...371#post8936371

Jey, So many of these new age antibiotics have horrible and deadly side effects but the doctors keep prescribing them because the doctor perks are so great.
My daughter was a teenager when it happened. She spent almost two weeks at the hospital and began to recover. After a kidney biopsy, she thank goodness wasn't as bad as it could have been as in complete loss of her kidneys. She had to completely stay off of salt for a good year and be checked for the rest of her life.
When we left the hospital I looked up Zithromax Z-pack and sure enough Kidney failure was listed as a possible side effect.

I know that I too ended up with diverticulosis after antibiotic use and I have known several people who had and died of colon cancer after antibiotic use.
I think It's bad stuff that should only be used as a last resort.
