Default High TSH & T4

My mother has something odd going on, in which both her TSH & her T4 readings are high. Her TSH is now 8, where a few years ago it was normal, maybe 3? I don't know what the T4 reading is, but it is also high.

She takes synthroid & has for years. I think her doctor dropped her dose a bit a year or so ago. She also has been taking cumadin for a year or so & got put on a dose that was too high for a bit, which didn't work well for her at all.

Has anyone heard of something like this? Her doctor hasn't tested T3 (total, free, reverse, any). She is going to go see an endocrinologist in Feb, but I am curious if anyone on the list has any experience with this kind of thing.

Thanks, Beth

Yeah, the pituitary secretes TSH and sometimes it gets messed up. I've heard a blow to the head can do it or a pituitary tumor.

That makes sense -- thanks! I don't know if that is what is going on, but it's an idea.
