Smile Intro and a question

Hi everyone.! I am new to the group and am looking for a board that has alot of posting and support. From what I see this is the place to be. I am 30 years old married with 3 children. I weigh 227. I need to lose atleast 80 pounds. My short term goal is to get under 200! I started CAD on 07/14/01 and have changed to Atkins so today is my first day of induction. I look forward to talking to everyone soon. I also have a question. I have heard alot of different things about lunch meat. I love Carl Buddig Chicken Lunch Meat and from what I can tell it is allowed. I will post the info from the package below(I have seen a few people do this and you guys give great information). Can anyone verify if this is OK. I eat it with cream cheese like every meal. Thanks alot.

Welcome to the forum brandij!

It's great that you are looking at labels and figuring things out. There is a Hidden Carbs Calculator in Low Carb Tools in the orange bar on the Home Page of the site. You can use it by clicking this link.

A good way to make decisions about LC is to create your own "bottom line", which has nothing to do with your rear end!

If after examining the package, you agree that all the ingredients and carb count in the meat is what you want to eat, then eat it.

But, if you want my personal opinion, luncheon meat would not be my first choice for protein. I would take real meat over processed meat any day. Our food supply is pretty nasty, and I prefer to eat food as close to its natural state as possible. That's my "bottom line".

Keep posting!

Karen

Thanks Karen for the welcome and the info. That is a great tool. I used it and it said like -1.000 carbs which is confusing but I think I agree with you anyway about "real meat" I will start making some chicken or tuna salad instead. Look forward to talking to you again soon.

Thanks,
Brandij

Welcome aboard Brandi,

If the result is in negative, this generally means the manufacturer is not hiding anything, but they are rounding the numbers a bit.

Example, 9 grams of fat, might actually be 9.49g which will result in around -1 carbs.

hi brandi and welcome! i think atkins is really the best for people with carb issues. you'll feel bad for a couple of days because of your carb withdrawal. well, maybe you won't because you've been doing cad. by eating so little carbs, you really lose the cravings for carbs. it really works! hope to hear more from you!

Thank you Debbie,

Actually I do feel bad right now but I have not gotten the vitamins I should be taking yet so I am sure once I get them it will be better.

Thanks,
Brandi
