Hi there!!!! I'm new here but not new to lowcarbing. I have done Atkins off and on over the years and lost quite a bit of weight at one time. I fell back into my old habits and am now up to 205 lbs and I'm only 5'0!! I have become a vegetarian and although I feel better physically not eating meat, I have gained a lot of weight. I read about something called "Eco-Atkins" which is basically a vegetarian version of the Atkins WOE.
I'm hoping to find some support here from other veggies!

Thumbs down

Hi again, FH. I hesitated to say it before, but what I don't like about eco-Atkins is it leans on things like grains and beans - the things that made me sick and fat in the first place. You need to be restrictive with those things because they're high in carbs.

On the plus side, as I think Thud mentioned earlier in this thread, stressing the low-carb veggies and healthy fats (avocados, olives, coconut, nuts and seeds) makes it work.

Although I eat canned salmon, sardines and other small fatty fish for a good shot of protein, calcium and omega 3, I think organic tofu fortified with nigari (calcium) is a great lower carb veg substitute for all that. All the better if you eat eggs and/or yogurt and cheese.

Again, best of luck to you ! Here'she hoping the veggie people will come out of the woodwork here to lend support.

I have recently readopted lowcarb vegetarian. I tried John McDougalls diet, but was always hungry. I am tired of battling low blood sugar and hunger headaches. So far this is working.
