A better LC ice-cream
With the hotter weather upon us, I've been trying to devise a healthy way to replace ice-cream as a cool treat. I had been having the stuff from Coles, but I figure I'd rather not do sugar alcohols if I can avoid it. So, here is what I just did:
In a blender, I mixed:
6 ice-cubes
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup cream
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
50g Balance vanilla whey protein isolate
Then, I pulled out the old ice-cream maker (I have the manual kind) and stirred it for about 10 minutes. The result was quite lovely! Here is the nutrient breakdown**:
Total Calories: 662
Total Fat: 53g
Total Carbs: 6g
Total Protein: 43g
**This could easily serve two, so you could cut those figures in half.
Now, I use sweetened protein powder - if you're using the unsweetened stuff you'd want to add some Splenda to the recipe to compensate. Or, you could add a cup of berries to give it some flavour.
I'm looking forward to hearing your suggestions also.
Cheers,
Wabi.
