Smile A WELCOME and some Hot Tips for Newbies!!

[FONT=Arial Black]Thanks for the intro. I hope I am doing this right. I have just decided that the atkins diet is what I need to trim down and motivate me to get back out and excercise again. I am still in the research mode gathering helpful hints and suggestions for starting and continuing this endeavor. Any suggestions would surely be appreciated. Good to be here.

Hi and welcome aboard!

Good for you for doing some research. You'll find plenty of info here! Feel free to ask any questions. One thing I'd do if I were you is start "practicing" - cut back on sugar and refined foods. If you're going to cook pasta, for example, replace half of it with vegetables and have a "Primavera" dish. The more you can cut down now, the less painful it will be once you start for real.

I moved your post from the 'sticky' thread so more people will see it.

Good luck!

I have one very brief question that you mention it. I am a huge hot tea drinker. I use milk and sugar. Are there any alternatives to these for I don't think I am ready to give up that vise. Thanks

That's fine, but you'll want to replace the milk and sugar with cream and artificial sweetener.

The Atkins plan recommends eliminating caffeine, but that's up for debate. If you've built up a tolerance to caffeine, it's probably not going to affect your weight loss. Still, if you drink an awful lot, it's not a bad idea to cut back. Decaf tea is available.

Try using Splenda and heavy cream in your tea. I hate most artificial sweetners, but I like Splenda fine. Actually, the cream in your tea is very yummy.

Welcome!

Thanks for the info. Can Splenda be found in general nutrition stores? Or maybe just local grocers?

I find mine at Food Lion, Kroger's-whereever. It is on the sugar isle near the Sweet N Low.
