Here's a link on MSN this morning.

http://go.msn.com/0000/5/33.asp?tar...ddiets%5F121202

The title is 9 fad diets to avoid. Atkins is among them.

Meanwhile, as you open the article, there's advertising for such sites as Weight Watchers, etc.

I really thought there had been some progress in terms of understanding LC'ing as a WOE. Guess not!

Default Science wise there has been

The problem is that now folks are going to have to admit that "oops" we were wrong.
As someone else posted on another thread, if you spent all your education and training..and then advise giving on the low fat, high carb pyramid, its a big shock to your system and pride to admit that you bought into a mindset and not good science.
Its hard to face facts for these authorities such as the woman that wrote the article that SHE could possibly have it wrong and why.
In the mean time we will just have to quietly go about our lives eating real food and continue giving our overworked insulin system the balance that they need :-)
( PS I predicted what she would say, because they are really too too predicatable!)

Thanks Wa'il!

I noticed at the end of the article it states:

However, when you return to your old eating habits, you'll pack on the pounds once again.

Yep, he is right. That is why this is a way of eating - not a diet.

Default A quote from the article...

"Most people simply return to their bad eating habits after following a crash diet plan, which causes them to gain back all the weight lost. In fact, many end up adding a few extra pounds to their initial weight."

The author of the article missed the main point of Atkins and many of the other low carb plans: THIS IS FOR LIFE AND NOT TO BE USED AS A CRASH DIET!! They obviously didn't read past the induction phase chapter or they would know this. Or...they're deliberately choosing to ignore the rest of the book so that they can make their point, which is invalid anyway.

What the author said is true of ANY diet plan...if you go back to your old eating habits once you lose the weight, the pounds will return and usually bring several of their friends along as well.

I disagree that it's difficult to maintain this WOE long term. I've been doing this for going on 2 years now and haven't had too much trouble, other than the occasional indiscretion, sticking with it. No health problems, either; quite the opposite. I'm in much better health now than I was 2 years ago, not to mention 75 lbs. lighter.
