Question Anyone tried Chana Dal?

Hey folks. I was wondering if anyone has some feedback on chana dal.
I just ordered some on Amazon. Here's what it is:

http://www.amazon.com/Bobs-Red-Mill...acts/B000EDBPI4

I am interested in it for reward meals. The nutritional contest is great (with 35% of your calcium along with tons of fiber, healthy fat and protein). The total carbs is high, but prepared a serving should be about 1 cups I believe. Seems big. But the biggy for me is the GI of these beans (a GI of 8, no kidding), which seems wonderful to me as I get strong blood sugar swings which I hope to minimize.

So has anyone tried it? Do you like it? Any recipe ideas?

Thanks

I is a small variety of chickpea. I use it to make hummus. At that GI, this plant should be of great interest to people with Type 1 Diabetes because if you eat a small amount spread out through the day it can have a remarkable blood sugar leveling effect. In combination with Bernstein's LC it could be very healthy indeed.

hi-
welcome to our group!
Another grain to check out is quinoa. It is also higher in protein and a great substitiute for rice or cous cous.
Thanks for the info about the dal. Very interesting!

Thanks for the welcome and the idea. It looks like quinoa has half your daily iron requirements per serving!

It doesn't sound so far like many people have tried chana dal, perhaps I should do a book report after I get it. I'm especially interested to see how my blood sugar reacts, given it's stated GI.

Yes! Please give us a review! I'm always on the lookout for foods that are more nutritious and compatible with this plan!
