I am curious, because my carbs are so low in Induction, what kind of carb/protein/fat ratios are experienced OWLs showing? How do you think those ratios have changed since Induction for you?

Thanks for any replies to this post.

I can tell you that my induction was around 10% carb.
In OWL it was around 11-12% carb.
And now in maintenance anywhere from10-15%.

Protein staying fairly consistent at 25-30%.

The rest fat (and sometimes alcohol ).

Progress not perfection.

Can I consider moving into OWL with 82% lost?

I probably would have segued into OWL a lot sooner. Where you are now with only 7 pounds to lose, you should probably already be in pre-maintenance.

Progress not perfection.

Well, (blush) I suppose I am in OWL, because I do a little of this and that with strawberries, almonds, broccoli, and the like. But I have yet to climb the ladder and find my carb limit (whatever the acronym).

CCLL-critical carb limit for losing

CCLM-critical carb limit for maintenance

Yes, you do need to climb the carb ladder and introduce new foods of your liking for 2 reasons, A) to find your CCLL and CCLM, and B) to really find out which foods are going to be problematic for you--can you even have them as part of your WOE.

The other thing, you may be surprised that your body may allow you more carbohydrate than you think in maintenance.

With only 7 pounds to lose, because the weight loss has slowed down when you're so close togoal, it is difficult to differentiate if a certain food is causing your weight loss to slow or if your weight loss is slow because you're close to goal

The other thing to remember, is that Dr. Atkins said that even though you climb the carb ladder, it does not mean that you eat from all the rungs every day, nor does it mean that you HAVE to eat from a certain rung--I rarely if ever (Never say never) eat from the wheat grain. Once in a blue moon eat from the legume grain except maybe for peanuts and peanut butter, always partake in rung 5

I agree, you will find it hard to decide if new foods or higher carb levels are having any effect on your weightloss. In this case you might find using the "Blood sugar symptoms" list from DANDR will be useful to help you see if new foods are affecting your body adversely.

I appreciate this discussion as I'm just going to start OWL tomorrow. My plan was to start by adding more vegs. I have NAMY and am following their plan. You answered some questions I didn't think of so thanks for that. I think if you read the book you'd understand some of the changes, but then I'm new to Atkins so I don't know what old plan, but I like what I'm reading. The reason I started Atkins is to do this carb ladder. I've been doing low carb for a number of years and feel it would benefit me to learn to add carbs in a way that doesn't cause stalls and cravings. So I'm excited to start OWL. My understanding is if you are having cravings you are not burning fat yet and need to continue until the cravings so away. I've been doing pretty well, but am tightening up what I'm doing. I have a hard time getting all the water and vegs.

Question

I restarted induction this week and I plan on going to OWL after my 2 weeks.

Only this time I've been eating things from the other rungs that I'm pretty sure I don't have problems with because I had them in my journey before. In the past, I was actually doing induction and had only upped my carbs by 5 at first with rung 1 veggies. Then, I started trying different items such as cottage cheese one week, raspberries the next and so on, but stayed within 25 carbs thinking I would continue to lose weight faster.. didn't happen and that's ok. I know this isn't a race. Still I went off Atkins for a while and now I'm back.

My question is, do you think I should do clean induction for the rest of the 2 week period and start fresh with OWL? Do it proper this time? I haven't had any cravings. I follow DANDR btw.

Thanks for your replies!

Dr Atkins didn't list all the nuts and seeds that there are, just some of them. So pecans are allowed on rung 3 OWL

Default Struggling with OWL

So I've added in sweet potato today - just 50g.

Both my meals plus a snack comes to 19NCS.

I have blueberries and raspberries in the fridge along with Greek yogurt - can I eat this yogurt or not?

I've read the OWL sticky and I'm going to try somethings from it this week.
